Hey everyone, I am getting the game thread up with about six and a half hours until the 1:30 p.m. (MST) kickoff between No. 15 Arizona and Arizona State in the 97th annual Territorial Cup in Tempe. The Wildcats will look to take home the Territorial Cup trophy home to Tucson for the first time since the 2008-2009 seasons.

No. 15 Arizona vs. ASU (POSTGAME)

Hey guys, we'll have all our postgame content right in this thread for everyone making for easy access for articles, tweets, takeaways and video content.

To start things off, I'll share my quick takes for the Wildcats' 59-23 hammering of ASU in the 97th Territorial Cup.

My takes:

- Tetairoa McMillan is the best receiver in program history and is probably the top dog in the conference. Against ASU McMillan totaled a Territorial Cup record 266 yards on 11 catches and a touchdown.

- Arizona's defense was locked in after the 75-yard drive by ASU to go up 7-3 early in the game. Although the Wildcats' allowed over 200 yards rushing, they created three turnovers in the game, held the Sun Devils to 3 of 9 on third downs and recorded eight tackles for loss.

- Jedd Fisch has taken the next step in his development as a head coach. During this six-game stretch, the play calling has become a thing of ease for Fisch and his has been able to create a nice balance of run-to-pass. Last season, I think he overthought situations and cost his team some points. But, he has grown and become a better coach for it.

- Jacob Manu should be one of the leading candidates for Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. I think we all thought Manu was going to have a special season but I don't think anyone expected him to rack up 97 tackles, 6 1/2 sacks and an interception becoming the leader of this defense.

- Arizona has set itself up to have a special 2024 season and win the Big 12 conference in its first season.

ASU game talk

I think they start Rashada. High risk but he has more upside then Borgeut.

They have some talent on offense. Skattaboo, Conyers and Badger are pretty good. We know silly Dilly will try almost anything to score so we better be ready and keep guys in front of us.

On defense they will blitz more then we will. Noah does a great job of getting it out quickly so feeling pretty good here.

They have done well against one dimensional teams so we need to be balanced and pound the rock like last year.

I am liking what and how CJF is saying in the lead up to this game. We seem focused and we have better players. Hoping we take them behind the woodshed but like most rivalry games, it will probably be closer than expected.

What say you

Addition By Subtraction

I didn't know where else to start this thread, so bear "down" with me. Yesterday, Thanksgiving Day, several of my family members and I got embroiled in a really lively discussion. We were talking about the $250 Million Budget Deficit at UA, how the Athletic Department receives its income (State vs non-State revenue streams), and then the upcoming transition to the BIG 12. Without going into detail after much bantering back and forth about the origins of the Budget Deficit and how it could be "fixed" we got into the upcoming transition to the BIG 12 and the difference between the average number of athletic programs per institution in the BIG 12 (17) and UA (23). At that point we began identifying which 6 programs would get axed and why. Keeping in mind Title IX. It was lively to say the least because we have four family members who were scholarship athletes in college, two Women and two Men.

So I am dying to know of those who post on this site, if the Budget Deficit required the cutting of 6 programs which six would you pick and why those? I'd really like to see which programs folks would pick and why. I will tell you our family did not come up with total consensus but did agree on some.

Latest CFP rankings

After the Wildcats' 42-18 win over Utah, Arizona has moved up two spots in the CFP rankings to No. 15 behind No. 14 LSU.

Remember, Arizona has an outside shot at the Pac-12 Title game with a win over ASU and an Oregon loss to OSU.

Oregon plays Oregon State on Friday night. So, Arizona will know if it has a chance at the title game before it kicks off against rival ASU.

The Wildcats have a realistic shot at ending the 2023 season ranked as a Top 10 team for the first time since the 2014 season.

Broyles Award list

Shockingly, Arizona's DC Johnny Nansen somehow isn't a finalist for the Broyles Award.

The Wildcats defense ranks 33rd in scoring (20.6 ppg), 29th in sacks (29), 13th in rushing (101.1 ypg), 12th in red zone defense and 39th in total defense.

Very surprising.

Here's the finalist according to Brett McMurphy:

Alabama OC Tommy Rees
Florida State DC Adam Fuller
Georgia OC Mike Bobo
Iowa DC Phil Parker
James Madison DC Bryant Haines
Louisville DC Ron English
LSU OC Mike Denbrock
Michigan OC Sherrone Moore
Missouri DL Kevin Peoples
Ohio State DC Jim Knowles
Oregon OC Will Stein
Penn State DC Manny Diaz
Texas DC Pete Kwiatkowski
UCLA DC D’Anton Lynn
Washington OC Ryan Grubb

Arizona basketball: Observations

Hey guys, Arizona hoops is five games into its season and has climbed to No. 3 in the AP Poll (new poll coming soon). I wanted to jump in and share my five takeaways so far this season.

Five takeaways:

- There is a different mentality with this roster. They don't think their going to win games, they expect to win games. It's a championship mindset that I haven't seen at Arizona since the 2013-14 team.

- Arizona is eight deep with three guys off the bench (KJ Lewis, Motiejus Krivas and Jaden Bradley) that could legitimately start for 95% of the country.

- This team has the potential to be the best defensive unit in the nation and near the defensive ability of the Aaron Gordon defense. The Wildcats have elite defenders at every level of the court.

- The high turnover numbers are a little surprising with three high-level guards handling the ball. I see a lot of lazy passes that have led to turnovers. That needs to get cleaned up.

- Caleb Love and Keshad Johnson have had a championship impact on this roster. Those guys have been through the battles and it shows.

What are some of your takeaways from the first five games so far?

Arizona has landed a commitment from 2025 quarterback Dash Beierly from Chaparral HS in Temecula, California. The Wildcats moved in early with the high three-star prospect and has already earned offers from schools such as Miami, Washington, Utah, Oregon State, Minnesota, Purdue and Pittsburgh among many others. He's made multiple trips to Arizona and has been a priority target for the staff in the class. He was impressive in his junior season finishing with nearly 2,000 yards through the air and just over 550 on the ground this year.

Remaining schedule

How are we feeling? I think the last two will both be battles, for different reasons. Arizona will have to match Utah’s physicality but, for the first time in what seems like decades, I think they can do it. ASU will be playing for pride and to salvage their season, so they’ll be playing hard. The biggest question for me against ASU is, how do you prepare for their gimmicky offense? How many more gimmicks can Dillingham have up his sleeve? Last night against UCLA they lined up in a swinging gate formation at least 25% of their plays. But did they show their cards too early? Did they give Arizona too much time to game plan for it? We’ll see how good our coaches are…

I think Arizona goes 2-0 to finish 9-3. I know Barnes has been good, but he’s not as explosive as Rising and if Arizona puts points up, a la Oregon, they’ll have to go away from their game and Barnes is probably not the guy to bring them back from a double-digit deficit. And I DO think Fisch and staff will be prepared for all of ASU’s PeeWee shenanigans.

Where are y’all at?
