I'm in San Antonio this week covering the prestigious All-American Bowl. Arizona quarterback signee Demond Williams, Jr. is part of the East squad (yes, it's weird) but he had a nice day today and threw a couple touchdown passes in the joint practice at the Alamodome this afternoon. I spoke with him afterwards and will have an interview coming up soon with him discussing his decision to sign with UA, this thoughts on the quarterback situation and the year Arizona had.

Motiejus Krivas feature story

This is a story I wrote about Motiejus Krivas after my one-on-one interview with him a few weeks back. This was a fun interview for me as there was a lot of first-hand perspectives about basketball in Lithuania and how he was able to fit into a collegiate system despite a lot of hurdles at such a young age.

Northwestern OL Alexander Doost transferring to Arizona

Arizona has secured a commitment from Northwestern freshman offensive lineman Alexander Doost today. The Phoenix native did not play for the Wildcats in his first season, but the current UA staff likes the 6-foot-7, 295-pound tackle quite a bit. If the name sounds familiar, it is because Doost was a regular visitor at Arizona during his recruitment and he became a priority target for Brennan Carroll and the staff during the last recruiting cycle.

He ended up pulling the trigger on a spring commitment to Northwestern but Arizona has previously built a connection and relationship with him making it an easy transition. Doost entered the portal just a few days ago and didn't get an opportunity to take a visit, so that previous bond with him certainly helps here.

Doost has Tucson connections as well with his mom's side of the family all being from the city. His grandpa even helped with construction at Arizona Stadium.

It was amazing, because I was born and raised in Tucson,” Doost previously said after a visit last year. “My whole family is from there, on my mom’s side. So, it was great getting to stay with them for the weekend, and talking to them about this they were so excited to hear I was going to U of A again. As with the staff, of course they’re all so nice and they’re personal. They do everything they can to make you feel welcome at the school, and that’s what I admire so much about U of A.”

He'll have four seasons of eligibility left with Arizona.

Here's a link back to a previous story discussing Doost's connections to Tucson and Arizona.

Alamo Bowl thread

Figured we would get this started and post things here on the game.

Saw one early book opened up with us as a 1.5 point favorite which surprised me.

Best match up of all the non BY6 bowl games

Oklahoma fans disappointed with this bowl and a ho him football brand like AZ. They better watch out.

There second leading rusher went into the portal and he is from the Phoenix area. Wouldn’t it be fun if he picked the cats

Have to wonder what players for both teams will enter the portal tomorrow and what other players will opt out of this game

Personal update (Troy)

Hey guys, National Signing Day is tomorrow and I'm working hard on that. However, I do feel like it is important to let you guys know that yesterday, around noon, my grandfather had a massive heartattack in my house and my brother and I gave him CPR until the paramedics arrived.

They worked on him for nearly an hour and then him to the hospital. He was completely unresponsive at that time. He had a two hour surgery to treat a blood clot in his heart. Last night, he coded (not sure if I spelled that right) three times and after that, they came to the realization that at this point we needed to make him comfortable before pulling the plug.

So, this morning I watched him pass away and he left this earth.

Again, I'm working on stuff for Signing day, but I highly doubt I will be going the the men's basketball game in PHX.

I wanted you guys to know that we plan on having the same elite coverage of Signing Day that we did last year. But, it is a trying time.

Recruiting 2023 class

Coming down to the wire here. I know we had a couple of 4 star Oregon commits in town this weekend. Also had a number of transfers

Looks like we are in a three way battle for the 4 star WR kid committed to Oregon. It’s Oregon, USC and use. We had Matthew’s in so I wonder if we would take both? Matthew’s would play the slot while the Gresham kid would probably go outside. We also have a visit this week from a top 250 player who was a CU commit.

We seem to have fewer defensive players then I would have thought which leads me to believe we probably have done silent commitments out there. I have no doubt we have some Silent’s but wasn’t sure which side of the ball they were on. The Oregon St kids going to Texas A&M for a visit likely means we are out for those guys

With our ascent up the polls you know we are in on some big battles right now. Maybe Matt can clue us in on where to be watching. In any event signing day is about a week away. These have to be crazy times for coaching staffs

COMMITMENT: Arizona flips two-way Cal commit Rahshawn Clark

A really talented two-way prospect is the next addition for Arizona. Seattle-Garfield athlete Rahshawn Clark has flipped from Cal to the Wildcats following his visit to Tucson. Clark had been committed to the Bears since July.

Could be a fit on either side of the ball at the next level at DB or receiver.

Arizona has landed its 18th commitment of the 2024 class in three-star JuCo DT Bryce Butler, who announced his decision on Twitter (X) this morning.

Butler was on visit this weekend in Tucson. He picked the Wildcats over offers from Buffalo, Oregon State, South Florida and UConn among others.

Bay Area tackle Kalolo Ta'aga has Arizona in top 4 ahead of commitment announcement

Three-star offensive tackle prospect Kalolo Ta'aga has made a couple visits to Arizona this fall, and now the Wildcats find themselves among his final four ahead of his commitment decision this Sunday. The 6-foot-7, 265-pound senior from Archbishop Riordan in San Francisco visited UA for the Oregon State game and was back for the Utah game a couple weeks later. The Wildcats offered him in September and have been active in their pursuit. Brennan Carroll recently held an in-home visit with Ta'aga, and UA is hoping to make him part of its 2024 class.

"It's good, it's been great with them," Ta'aga said of his relationship with the Wildcats. "Coach Brennan Carroll is my guy. He's a great coach, funny dude. I mean he came over twice in one day (school and home), so that shows a lot of how much interest they have in me. They want it (commitment) bad."

USC recently offered Ta'aga and he is fresh off an official visit with the Trojans, who head into the announcement as the favorite. Utah and Cal are also part of his final group. He took official visits to all four schools this fall. Ta'aga had not played football before this season, so he is looking strongly at development in his decision and academics are a big deal to him as well.

He previously committed to San Jose State before ever playing a snap of football. Riordan has some talented young prospects, so landing a pledge from Ta'aga could give Arizona an edge in landing some of the other players from that school.
