It has been a wild time for commitments with a number of recruits already picking their colleges in recent weeks. We just brought you a list of Arizona targets who committed just the other day, but it has continued into this week and lately it has again picked up. So, here's another rundown of prospects with UA offers who have committed elsewhere and the chances the Wildcats remain involved.
Tahj Magee - QB/ATH - (Franklinton, Louisiana/Louisiana Tech)
The two-star recruit from Louisiana was planning to take a visit to Arizona in July, but he had been talking about committing recently on social media. When we spoke with him in the last couple weeks he mentioned that the thought of committing to Arizona had gone through his head. Thursday he finally pulled the trigger but it wasn't to commit to the Wildcats. Instead he will be staying closer to home and making the move to LaTech which was one of his most recent offers. Similar to Texas, pulling recruits from Louisiana can be a bit of a chore at times and this is one of those times when a prospect decided to stay close to home at a smaller school rather than leaving and taking a bigger option. I would not expect Arizona to stay as a major player in this one although it could stay involved a bit and keep tabs. There are some higher priorities for the 'Cats.
Wooby Theork - ATH (Naples, Florida/Virginia)
Arizona was one of the first schools to offer the Florida-based recruit, but he has long been vocal about wanting to play in the ACC. When that chance came along it changed things and he joined a recent string of commits to Virginia. The three-star recruit fits the mold of prospects UA has recruited in the past with versatility to his game. He is expected to play receiver at the next level. This is one I could see UA staying involved with, but he won't be a big priority as things move forward.
Jordyn Byrd - ATH (Albuquerque, New Mexico/San Diego State)
Arizona is close enough to New Mexico that the Wildcats have looked to the state for recruits. In this cycle Byrd was the prospect UA was looking at in New Mexico and the speedy athlete prospect was giving the Wildcats a good look. Byrd's speed was the biggest aspect of his game and that is something that should keep UA interested and at least a little bit involved with this one. San Diego State is on a string of impressive commitments loading up on local recruits, but Byrd is one of the recent pledges from outside of San Diego.
Jayde Pierre - DT (Sterling, Virginia/Temple)
Arizona has been hitting up the DMV area with offers all spring and Pierre is one of the recruits the Wildcats decided to join in the race for. This one took place a while back, but the chance to play a little bit closer to home with a program that was paying a little more attention to him pushed things over the edge for the three-star defensive tackle. At this point I wouldn't expect the Wildcats to make a major push, but I could see him getting out on a visit at some point.
Kievan Myers - OT (Dallas, Texas/Illinois)
Late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning the Texas-based offensive lineman decided to end his recruitment and pick the Illini. Earlier in the day Wednesday the three-star prospect tweeted out that he was essentially down to Illinois and Missouri before announcing his decision. The Wildcats became involved with the Bishop Dunne standout over the spring coming through with an offer as the staff was making sure to get more into Texas. UA never seemed to gain much traction with Myers so it would be a bit of a surprise if that changes as things move along.
Carson Schleker - WR (Allen, Texas/Iowa State)
Iowa State has been getting into Texas the way Arizona has been hoping too lately. It recently picked up a pledge from big cornerback recruit Christian Young who Arizona had been working to get on campus for a visit and it remains one of the favorites for athlete recruit Ta'zhawn Henry as well from Texas. In addition to those two Schleker was someone from Texas the Wildcats offered and were working on over the spring. However, he too is now headed to Ames as the momentum keeps moving along for the Cyclones. His teammate, Brock Sturges, is someone the Wildcats had worked on and were able to get out on a trip but the same interest never seemed to come from Schleker. At this point it would be a bit of a surprise if UA made a move with him.
Emoryie Edwards - WR (Tulare, California/Fresno State)
UA was in a good spot with Tulare running back Kazmeir Allen before he ended up picking Boise State a few weeks ago. Edwards was someone who the Wildcats came in later with an offer for. The same interest hadn't been there with Edwards and staying close to home seemed to be appealing to him more than with Allen. He ultimately decided it was the right move to stay close and picked the local Bulldogs earlier this week. The Wildcats sit in a better spot and have a higher priority with some other prospects, so I would expect UA to move on in this one.
