Arizona clearly wants to build a pipeline into Minnesota and the Wildcats decided to make an offer to another prospect from the state on Tuesday. The top travel ball team in Minnesota is D1 Minnesota, which plays on the adidas circuit. One of its previous teams had players such as Zeke Nnaji (Arizona), Tyrell Terry (Stanford) and Matthew Hurt (Duke). In all that team had nine players earn Division I scholarships and mostly at high-major schools.
This last season it featured Dawson Garcia (Marquette) and UA target Kerwin Walton. Another prospect on the team was five-star wing Kendall Brown who is still a junior but has a chance to be the best of the bunch. The 6-foot-7 wing added an offer from the Wildcats this evening as Sean Miller's coaching staff continues to work that part of the country.
Brown is currently rated as the No. 14-ranked prospect in the 2021 class and is a five-star recruit. His size is a clear strength, but his ability to play defense is something the Wildcats are naturally going to be attracted by when it comes to the five-star prospect.
He still needs to work on improving his jump shooting but he otherwise fits into exactly what the Wildcats want on the perimeter on both ends of the floor with his ability to defend but also get to the basket and make plays off the wing.
"He’s established himself as an elite two-way player at Sunrise Christian," the Rivals.com national team recently wrote about Brown after naming him a top-50 recruit the Rivals Master Class (best prospects regardless of class). "Big wing is an elite defender with well above average athleticism."
The five-star prospect left Minnesota after his sophomore season to play at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas but he still has ties back to his home state.
Kanas has been viewed as the leader in his recruitment, but with the success of Nnaji and the increasing chance that Arizona will also land Walton it makes sense that Arizona will be a player in his recruitment.
Nnaji already is trying to help Arizona with the recruitment on social media.
Arkansas, Baylor, Cal, Creighton, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Marquette, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, St. Louis, Texas and Wake Forest are some of the other programs that have offered him up to this point and have been involved with the process. Ohio State and Marquette are two programs that have already had Brown on campus for official visits while Kansas has also been able to get him out for a visit as well.
Here is an interview (plus highlights) with Brown from last fall.
