Arizona NIL Status

Matt et al: Do we know how much is in the bank for these payout to potential players?? A good buddy of mine was telling me his son who signed with Texas A&M received in excess of $650k to attend there. My understanding it is over 4 years, so if he does 3 then it's less. He's an offensive tackle. Thats serious loot for a tackle. And it became a bidding war with LSU too. So, I can only imagine what QB's, WR, DB's and other key positions could potentially receive. Now - at some point this will become a massive mess (in some cases it already is) but I'm curious as to where we stand financially. Any insight, and more importantly, do we know how the $ is paid since the staff can't actually be a part of it??

2024 commitment: Safety Kingston Lopa

Arizona beats out the likes of Oregon, USC, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Colorado, Auburn, ASU and others for the 6-foot-4 safety Kingston Lopa from Sacramento. He's been listed as a linebacker but the Wildcats want him in the secondary, and it is another big win for UA in the 2024 class. Running back Jonah Coleman played a big part in making his happen with his connections to the area. Lopa took a visit to UA over the weekend.

Arizona football: Spring practice No. 6

Hey guys, practice isn't officially over yet, but I wanted to jump on and give some quick takeaways that I'll have more on later.

Quick takeaways:

Kevin Green - Well, today was the day for Kevin Green, who absolutely torched the defense with two touchdowns and a 60-yard TD during the first 11-on-11 drill session.

Line movement - Like I've been saying for a while, Arizona will be move Jonah Savaiinaea to the right tackle spot closer to the season. However, today Savaiinaea played right tackle during all the 11-on-11 drills for the first team unit. He looked amazing and I think will be moved there permanently.

Injury updates - DJ Williams and Tanner McLachlan were still out today. Also, we have yet to see Tia Savae get any reps with no details on that yet. He is at practice, just not reps even during position drills.

We'll have more later. Feel free to ask any questions.

Arizona football: Spring practice No. 5

Hey guys, just wanted to jump in and share some quick takeaways from Day 5 of spring practice.

Quick takeaways:

AJ Jones - Wide receiver AJ Jones had a nice day with a touchdown and some catches. He really has the body to be a high-level receiver, but still drops the ball from time to time.

Tanner McLachlan - Tuesday, Tanner McLachlan went down with a small injury, but finish the practice. Today, McLachlan was out and didn't run any drills.

Jayden de Laura - I wouldn't say it was a poor day for Jayden de Laura, but it certainly wasn't his best. De Laura threw a couple of picks and has some batted balls. Overall, he has looked great, but today was a down day.

We'll have more later tonight. Please feel free to ask any questions.

Spring practice: Day No. 4

Hey guys, Arizona wrapped up Day 4 of spring practice and wanted to jump in and share some quick takeaways.

Quick takes:

Jordan Morgan - After injurying his knee against UCLA, coach Jedd Fisch has said that the time table for Jordan Morgan's return is around the start of the 2023 season. Well, today was a great sign with Morgan doing some running drills on the side line spring practice. He looks to be coming along on schedule.

Rayshon Luke - Running back Rayshon Luke is a very interesting piece for the 2023 season and see how Arizona will use him in different formations and what not. However, spring has been rough for Luke, who has fumbled the ball three times through four practices. I'll be watching his ball security from here on out.

Isaiah Rutherford - It has been an up and down career for Rutherford after coming from Notre Dame. He started spring as the No. 2 CB, but after getting worked through the first three days, he is now apart of the second unit defense.

I'll have more later as always. But, please feel free to comment with any questions.

Spring practices: Day No. 3

Hey guys, just got done with interviews and heading home to write. However, I wanted to jump in and share some quick takes.

Quick takes:

Justin Flowe- Linebacker Justin Flowe looks to have fully recovered from whatever was holding him back at Oregon. Flowe was all over the field making plays in the running game and jumping all over quick slants in the passing game. He will 100% be a starting Linebacker for Johnny Nansen.

Tia Savae- defensive tackle Tia Savae isn't fully healthy and hasn't been involved during 11-on-11 drills.

Defensive backs - the defensive backs unit has been a lot more aggressive and somewhat cocky. There is a new swagger back there that hasn't been there in quite some time. Prysock has looked great and every part if a star corner.

I'll have more in a little. But, please feel free to ask questions.

Committed WR visiting next weekend

Lawndale (Calif.) Leuzinger wide receiver Daijon "Wooptie" Calimon will be visiting Arizona next weekend (March 4) in the first weekend teams can host recruits since January. Calimon committed to Colorado the day before Deion Sanders was hired in Boulder. He has been able to visit CU since the hire but I talked with him this weekend and it doesn't sound like Sanders' staff is giving him the complete attention he would like to see. His connection is with one of the staffers who is a holdover from the Dorrell staff, and he wasn't recruited by the current coaches so the door is definitely open for UA to make a move. He was impressive on Sunday when I watched him at a 7v7 event, and he'd be another complimentary piece for the receiver group. He also plays defensive back but is expected to stick on offense in college. He plays for former UA star tight end Brandon Manumaleuna at Leuzinger, so there is a bit of a Wildcats connection there.

Spring Football (personal update)

Hey guys, tomorrow is the start of spring football and we will have full coverage for you guys from Five Takeaways from the post-practice interviews (Alex Poor writing), Top Takeaways from practice (Aidan Wohl) and Videos from the interviews (Madison Carney).

Now, if you noticed, my name isn't in the coverage plan for tomorrow and that is why I'm making this post. Recently, my aunt (Tia) has passed away and her funeral will be Tuesday (tomorrow). SO, i will be going to her funeral instead of the first spring practice. However, I will make sure everything goes as smooth as possible for our hard working interns.

I will return on Thursday for full coverage and will have the recap for the men's basketball tournament game ahead of the practice.

If you have any questions let me know.

This will serve as our hub for today's coverage of Arizona's first spring practice. To start off, we have a short video of clips from the first day of work for the Wildcats. Among the newcomers you can see glimpses of in the video are quarterback Brayden Dorman (17/red), offensive lineman Rhino Tapaatoutai (59), receiver Malachi Riley (10), Genesis Smith (12) and JUCO transfer defensive back Charles Yates Jr. (17/white).

Clips shot by our reporter Madison Carney.

No. 2 in the South

Arizona will be headed to the South Region as the No. 2 seed. The first game will take place Thursday against 15th-seeded Princeton in Sacramento.

UCLA got the No. 2 seed in the West.

The South Region goes through Louisville this year. The Wildcats will either play (7) Missouri or (10) Utah State with a win over Princeton.

GAME THREAD: No. 2 Arizona vs top-seeded UCLA (Pac-12 Championship)

Hi everyone, I am getting the game thread up with about four hours to go before the 8:30 MST tip-off at T-Mobile Arena where No. 2 Arizona will take on top-seeded UCLA for the Pac-12 championship. This will be the rubber match between the two schools with Arizona downing UCLA at McKale Center before losing 82-73 at Pauley Pavilion one week ago.

Notes:
  • Head coach Tommy Lloyd is 6-0 in his first two seasons in revenge games and 4-0 this season
  • Cedric Henderson Jr. has averaged 18 .5 points over the last two games in Las Vegas and will look to keep his upward trend going in the championship
  • UCLA star junior Jaylen Clark will not play and UCLA forward Adem Bona will most likely not play due to dislocating his shoulder in the first half last night's semi-final contest against Oregon

23 PAC Conference Tournament

Starts tonight with 4 underwhelming games. The 8-9 game might be fun but both teams are just so blah. I watched CU a couple of times late in the season and they look like they have just mailed it in on this year. Washington should be looking for a new coach after the next loss.

The Utah/Stanford game could be fun but Utah has so many injuries and I think Stanford beats them and has great confidence they can beat us.

ASU and WAZZU should win easily and then ASU will have a play in game Vs USC

New staff addition

A new staff addition for Arizona that could be crucial to recruiting in SoCal. Armond Hawkins Jr. recently left Colorado to join the Wildcats and he is a big deal on the recruiting scene. He’s coming aboard as an analyst with the CB group and an assistant recruiting director. He almost single-handedly kept the Buffs afloat after the coaching change last year. They actually had more commitments after the change than before Dorrell was fired. Mondo was a big part of that as most of the new commitments had some tie to him. His dad runs the Ground Zero 7v7 team and his younger brother is 4-star UCLA DB commit Khristian Dunbar-Hawkins. This is a good hire for the Wildcats.

Jedd knows what he’s doing.
