New assistant coach

After talking to sime people, it's clear that Arizona has found its assistant coach to replace the loss of Riccardo Fois, who has moved on to the Sacramento Kings.

Tommy Lloyd will be promoting recruiting coordinator TJ Benson to assistant coach.

Benson has been with Lloyd at Arizona from the start and was at Gonzaga before making to move to Tucson.

A formal announcement by the team is expected to happen closer to the Wildcats getting ready for the 2024-25 season.

Nearly A Month

It has been nearly a month without anything on the Basketball forum. I know it is summer but we have had some nice stories on our players in summer & Euro league play on other sites. The forums are the biggest reason (by far) that I subscribe. I hope we can have more forum content moving forward. I know you all work very hard but I like the banter on the forums rather that just an article which have also been short in supply.

Arizona-UCLA rivalry

Hey guys, we posted in here a month or so ago that the Arizona-UCLA rivalry series was being working on for a non-conference matchup with both teams joining two separate conference and wanting to keep the historic rivalry going. Tuesday morning Arizona announced that the two programs have finalized a non-conference schedule that will starting this upcoming 2024-25 season.

The games will be played on neutral sites and the series will feature three games over the next four season with it starting in Phoenix at the Footprint Center on Dec. 14. The series will have games in 2024, 2025 and in 2027. Tickets for the matchup up north will go on sale on August 14 at 10 a.m. (MST).

Neutral site locations:

- Footprint Center, Phoenix (2024)
- T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas (2025)
- Year off (2026)
- Venue (TBD) Los Angeles (2027)

"We are happy to work alongside UCLA to keep this series on the schedule moving forward," Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd said. "For decades, Arizona-UCLA games have meant so much to our players, coaches, and fans across the country. Icons in the game of basketball have made this rivalry into one of the best in college basketball, and we look forward to adding the next chapters in the years to come."

Arizona football: Training camp (Day 10)

Hey guys, we are back at training camp and just wrapped up Day 10 with the season now 19 days away. I wanted to come in here and share my quick takeaways from the day following the end of the post-practice press conference.

Quick takes:

- Leif Magnuson

Although Leif Magnuson isn't full back going through drills with the team, he was back at practice for the first time in a long time after going down with an unknown injury during the sixth practice of camp. Magnuson from what I saw didn't work much with the strength staff. but was with the offensive line the whole time and was giving tips and advice to underclassmen in the group. It seems like he is close to returning, but has some time to go.

- Tetairoa McMillan

Today was a positive step in the return of star receiver Tetairoa McMillan, who has been working with the strength staff for the majority of camp to get back on the field. McMillan participated in position drills and saw some time during 7-on=7 drills while wearing the red jersey, which means zero contact. He is on track for his time-table to return fully and I expect him to gear up either by the end of the week, or start of next week for the 2024 season.

- Cole Tannenbaum

The backup quarterback spot has been wide open for most of camp and no one really has pulled away from the group. However, Cole Tannenbaum has had a really good camp and has been the most consistent out of the punch. I'm not sure he will be the No. 2 guy when the season rolls around, but Tannenbaum is giving it his all and forcing the staff to giving him a serious look for the position.

We'll have more shortly from practice. Please jump in and ask any questions you may have, or if you want more detail on one of these topics.

AP Top 25

Arizona will open the season as the No. 21 team in the AP Top 25. The preseason rankings were just released a few minutes ago and the Wildcats are one of five Big 12 teams included in the poll. Utah (12), Oklahoma State (17), Kansas State (18) and Kansas (22) also made the preseason rankings.

Arizona football: Training camp (Day 8)

Hey guys, we have wrapped up Day 8 of Arizona training camp and I wanted to jump in and share my quick takes from the day.

Quick takes:

Injury update

- Leif Magnuson was still out along with Tetairoa McMillan and Josh Baker. Again, it is unclear what is going on with Magnuson and Baker, which the staff was stood by their stance on not talking about injuries.

- Lachlan Bruce

Today was a very bad practice for new punter Lachlan Bruce, who averaged 2.7 seconds on his hang time. Bruce just could never find a rhythm and shanked a few punts as well.

- AJ Jones' struggles

It's has been a rough camp for AJ Jones, who has had multiple drops in every practice. Today, Jones dropped a wide open 40-plus yard bomb of a pass that was delivered on a dime. It's hard to see where he will get playing time with his training camp performance.

We'll have more in the morning from practice and post-practice video of Brent Brennan shortly.

Arizona football: Training camp (Day 7)

Hey guys, sorry for not jumping in here yesterday after camp. I was dealing with car issues and had my hands full with that. However, we're back and have quick takes from Day 7 of camp.

Quick takes:

- Lachlan Bruce

I got yo see Lachlan Bruce hit a handful of punts and I like what I saw. Again, this isn't under pressure so it isn't the best case to judge off of, but Bruce looked really good at bombing punts deep with a hang time around 4.23 to 4.36 on average. The Wildcats needed a punter after a rough spring camp and might've found one in Bruce.

- Kevon Darton

Since been able to be back at practice after missing the first day, defensive lineman Kevon Darton hasn't been used as much on the field like many thought he would be. But, coach Joe Seumalo (DL coach) said that he is working his way back and getting more reps as of late.

- Tetairoa McMillan

The last two practice Tetairoa McMillan has been more involved and has participated in position drills. Still, McMillan is very limited and isn't doing 7-on-7 competitions, or 11-on-11 drills.

He is close to coming fully back and I expect him to be a full go by game week rolls around.

We'll have more in this thread from practice. Feel free to share some thoughts, or ask any questions you may have.

WATCH: OL Rhino Tapa'atoutai and Wendell Moe talk after Day 6 of camp

The left side of Arizona's offensive line spoke to reporters today after practice with left tackle Rhino Tapa'atoutai and left guard Wendell Moe talking with the media after Day 6 of camp Wednesday. Check out the media session above.

Arizona football: Training camp (Day 5)

Hey guys, we are here at Arizona training camp Day 5 and the team isn't in full pads. Usually this is the day that team hit full pads, but today isn't that day for the Wildcats.

Still plenty of stuff to talk about and so I wanted to jump in and give my quick takes from today.

Quick takes:

- Wendell Moe

Guard Wendell Moe I'd back at practice after missing the last few to an unknown small injury. Moe is working with the first-team offensive line at his usual position.

- Genesis Smith

Safety Genesis Smith missed practice on Monday and it was safety Owen Goss who stepped into his place playing the nickel position. In the starting secondary was Tacario Davis and Treydan Stukes at cornerback, Gunner Maldonado and Dalton Johnson at safety and Owen Goss at nickel.

- Figuring out backup center

During 11-on-11 drills the starting offense didn't feature Josh Baker at center. Instead the staff had Grayson Stovall taking reps as they try to figure out the backup center spot. I wouldn't make much of Baker not going, it's just the staff seeing what they have behind him.

We'll have more from practice. Feel free to comment, or ask any questions you may have.

Arizona football: Training camp (Day 4)

Hey guys, we've wrapped up Day 4 of training camp and I wanted to jump in and share my quick takes from the day. Both Leif Magnuson and Wendell Moe were out and Tetairoa McMillan is still working on the sideline trying to get ready for the start of the season.

Quick takes:

- Jeremiah Patterson is a stud

I think it is clear through the four practices that wide receiver Jeremiah Patterson will be a big part of the Arizona offense and the staff needs to get the football in his hands. Patterson is a great route runner and has the ability to beat the defense over the top with his speed. I think he will be a perfect fit as the slot man next to McMillan.

- Duane Akina setting the tone

When talking to the defensive backs after practice they talked about how Duane Akina's energy really sets the tone for the defense. That it is contagious and that the team feeds off of it. Akina maybe an older coach, but he has the energy that he did when he was with Dick Tomey at Arizona back in the 90's.

- Treydan Stukes is a ball hawk

Through three practices, Stukes has gotten an interception all three days. Plus, he has played all over the field at nickel and both cornerback positions. It seems that he just has a knack for the ball and just cuts at the perfect time to make the play. This might be shaping up for a big final season for the one-time walk-on..

We'll have more from practice here shortly.

Arizona football: Training camp (Day 3)

Hey guys! We've wrapped up Day 3 of training camp and completed our interviews with players and coaches. I just wanted to jump in and five my quick takes from the day before getting to work on content from the practice.

Quick takes:

- Leif Magnuson

We were in the press box today inside Arizona Stadium meaning we got an overhead view and from what we could see, guard Leif Magnuson wasn't at practice today.

- Dino Babers' offense

During post-practice interviews, offensive coordinator Dino Babers made it clear that this offense will be different from anything he has run in the past from previous programs.

- Nasty

When talking to Josh Baker, he said that he would say the offense is "nasty" in terms of the mentality and how they want to go about games. This team wants a nastiness to them.

We'll have more from practice here shortly. Be sure to weigh in and as any questions.

Arizona football: Training camp Day 2

Hey guys, we've just ended Day 2 of training camp and I wanted jump in to share my quick takes.

Quick takes:

- Treydan Stukes

Stukes wasn't available for the first day of camp but was back on the field today and was working in the nickel position. On the outside was Emmanuel Karnley and Marquis Groves-Killebrew with Tacario Davis still out.

- Ryan Stewart

The former SJSU tackle has been working as the backup center and today was a tough day with multiple bad snaps. However, it's the same issue every time, the snaps are very low and nearly hit the ground. Remember Stewart hasn't ever played center, so this is a learning experience this camp.

- Kevon Darton

The Syracuse transfer didn't play the first day of camp and was working on the sideline with strength coaches. However, he got some time today (limited) with the third unit. Darton is working his way back.

We'll have more as always, here shortly. Feel free to ask any questions, or drop a few comments.

Arizona football: Training camp Day 1

Hey guys, we've wrapped up Day 1 of Arizona football training camp and there is a lot ot discuss. I've made a post on Raymond Pulido, who will not be available this season according to Brent Brennan.

I'll be working on my Pulido article and three-sstance today.

However, I wanted to share my quick takes from the first day of practice.

Quick takes:

- Ryan Stewart, who was a transfer tackle from San Jose State is the No. 2 center behind Josh Baker. Stewart looked solid had one, or two bad snaps but a lot of good tools to work with.

- Tacario Davis and Treydan Stukes where both out and suited up on the sideline. The coaches don't comment on injuries, so there is no time table and it is unknown the injury situation with them.

However, they looked solid and both were working out with the strength staff.

- Tetairoa McMillan didn't participate today in practice—as expected—but he was working with strength coach Cullen Carroll. McMillan was moving well during agility drills and is making his way back on schedule.

Again, we will have more from today. So, please share any questions, or comments you may have from the quick takes.

Three-star 2026 offensive lineman Jerald Mays will be visiting Arizona this weekend as the dead period comes to an end for a few days. Official visits are not permitted again until the season begins but this week is allowing recruits to hit the road once more before the end of the summer. Most schools utilize this weekend to host rising junior prospects, and Mays is among that group for the Wildcats.

COMMITMENT: 2025 WR Muizz Tounkara makes the call for Arizona

Arizona beats out Kansas and Wisconsin to earn a commitment from three-star receiver Muizz Tounkara. This is a very nice pickup for the Wildcats and helps Bobby Wade continue his momentum recruiting the position for UA. There had been some buzz that Tounkara would end up at Wisconsin shortly after his visits last month, but Wade and the Wildcats get the job done and add to an impressive receiver haul for 2025. Tounkara has plenty of talent and is another versatile piece to add in the mix at receiver.

He spoke with Rivals analyst Marshall Levenson about his decision to pick the Wildcats.

"I mean they're really good people beyond football, so it really means a lot to me and my family. The wide receiver coach Bobby Wade played in the NFL too so the development piece is there and they're losing a lot of seniors so I could come in and work and play."
