Nick Quintana had three doubles and four RBI and Cody Deason tossed six strong innings to lift the Arizona Wildcats to a 14-1 win over USC on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Dedeaux Field.

Quintana went 3 for 6 and now has six-straight multiple-hit games and four-straight multiple-RBI games. He’s 22 for 41 over his last 10 games with 24 RBI. Quintana wasn’t the only Wildcat to stay hot at the plate. Cameron Cannon went 2 for 4 with a home run, two RBI and four runs scored.

Deason went six innings, allowing six hits, one run and striking out eight to lower his season ERA to 1.94.

The win lifted Arizona to 21-11 on the season and 5-5 in Pac-12 play. USC dropped to 16-13 and 5-8 in the league. Arizona has now won four straight and nine of 10. During the four-game win streak, the Wildcats have scored 51 total runs and have scored 14 or more runs in three of the four games.

Arizona’s potent offense wasted no time getting to USC starter Kyle Hurt. Cannon drew a one-out walk in the first and moved to third on a single from Alfonso Rivas. Quintana then attacked the first pitch for a double down the left field line to plate Cannon and make it 1-0. The next batter, Cesar Salazar, hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Rivas, who just beat the tag with a nifty slide into home.

Arizona was just getting started against Hurt and the Trojans.

Donta Williams and Ryan Haug led off the second inning with back-to-back walks and each moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt from Matt Fraizer. Jacob Blas plated Williams with an RBI groundout and Haug scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to make it 4-0.

An inning later, Cannon led off the frame with his fifth home run of the season, which made it 5-0. Cannon’s home run gave him five in his last eight games. The Trojans got one run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI groundout, but the Cats would blow the game open in the fourth with a five-run inning.

Blas started the rally with a one-out walk and scored when the next batter, Cal Stevenson, hit his sixth triple of the season to right-centerfield. Cannon followed with an RBI single up the middle on a 1-2 count to score Stevenson and increase the lead to 7-1. The next batter, Rivas, walked to put two on for Quintana, who again came through.

Quintana roped his second double of the game to left to score Cannon and move Rivas to third. Salazar brought Rivas home for the second time in the game on an RBI groundout, which made it 9-1. Quintana capped the five-run inning when he scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-1.

The Wildcats added four more in the eighth when Quintana had a two-run double and Haug and Stevenson each drew bases loaded walks.

Quintana was 3 for 6 with four RBI and two runs scored. Senior right-hander Robby Medel pitched the final three innings to earn his second save of the season.

Arizona and USC will continue their three-game series Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The game will be televised by Pac-12 Arizona and Pac-12 Los Angeles. Right-hander Michael Flynn will start for Arizona. He’ll be opposed by righty Solomon Bates for the Trojans.
