Elijah Blades? Well, it turns out – as I mentioned when Arizona was recruiting him – that academics were an issue. I said that was one reason I didn't see him ending up at Florida when he committed there and was hesitant when he ended up following Donté Williams to Nebraska. Well, now he's not going there either. The California defensive back wasn't able to qualify and will instead play at Arizona Western this season down in Yuma. Nebraska didn't place him there and he was recruited by Tom Minnick over at AWC so he is now no longer going to be someone Nebraska has a shot at. It sounds like things didn't end on a good note so he will have a chance to be recruited again and it will be interesting to see if Arizona gets involved later in the process. It might be a moot point considering things could change considerably for both sides over the next two years but it is interesting and a cautionary tale that when you hear about academics there is usually something there. Something like that doesn't make it to the media unless the story has some legs to it.

Arizona might have had a hard time getting him in as well, so in the end it might have avoided a headache too but still interesting and another an early loss for UA's ole DB coach.

Here's the full story from the Nebraska site if you want to read more about it.
