The contact period started yesterday and will run until Jan. 30 with some breaks in between. That means the coaching staff can visit or have a recruit visit six times between now and then. Arizona is trying to make up for lost time since it really didn't get a lot of time to recruit during the season. Expect Arizona to his some new targets and catch up with commits and other options as well.
Here is a quick rundown of some of the where things are at right now.
* Arizona got things started last night with Rich Rodriguez and Charlie Ragle making a trip out to Hawaii to check in on the jewel of the class Michael Eletise. The two Arizona coaches met with the four-star offensive lineman and his family and the No. 1 prospect from the state continues to stay locked in with his commitment and he also has his official visit coming up here soon. Obviously Eletise, and keeping him on board, is maybe the biggest priority for Arizona right now so it was important to make that an early stop for the staff and Rodriguez making the trip says a lot about the situation as well.
* I mentioned one name to keep an eye on last week in the War Room was four-star receiver Dez Fitzpatrick from Michigan. The Waterford (Mich.) Mott standout receiver decommitted from Louisville about a week ago and Arizona was all over it. This morning the four-star prospect picked up his offer from the Wildcats and plans to take an official visit in January. That is a big deal for UA considering getting a bigger receiver, Fitzpatrick is 6-2, is a priority in this class. Tony Dews and Calvin Magee made the trip out to see the four-star prospect and secured the visit while also extending the offer.
* One name you might remember but has been on the back burner is Cam Murray. The Arkansas native was offered way back in the spring and tried to make a visit out to Arizona during its big visit weekend in July. That never materialized and then the season got going and things just really slowed down. Monday morning they picked up again as Arizona was the first school to meet with the 6-foot-3 defensive tackle. Kansas remains the big competition for Murray and he has already had a chance to take a visit there.
His recruitment should start to pick up some steam now that the season is over and he can start taking official visits. I do think it is notable that Arizona already visited the three-star recruit this early in the week, however. As I have said before defensive linemen, JUCO linebackers and another receiver (as long as it's the right guy/impact guy) are priorities right now along with cornerbacks.
