Arizona defensive back target Tyrell Raby has trimmed his offer list down to a top 10 today and the Wildcats, unsurprisingly, made the cut for the three-star prospect from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I recently included the 21st-ranked player in the state as one of the recruits from Louisiana to watch as it pertains to Arizona recruiting and there was a reason for it.
Theron Aych has done a good job of recruiting his home turf in Louisiana in recent months and the Wildcats are trying to have a bigger footprint in the area once again. UA already landed a commitment and signature from linebacker Jabar Triplett Jr. during the last recruiting cycle and Raby is another Baton Rouge native who has interest in the the program.
The other programs that made the list are: Purdue, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Miami, Kansas, Houston, Memphis, UCF and Louisiana Tech. A few of the notable cuts to his list include Kentucky, Michigan State and Indiana.
Purdue has gained momentum in his recruitment as of late and is moving in position to be the program to beat, but Arizona has done a good job of staying involved and certainly is not in a bad spot at this point in the process.
Raby has openly discussed wanting to play with his friend Jah'von Grigsby and Purdue is one school that has offered both prospects already. We'll see if that eventually ends up being a big part of his eventual decision, but typically package deals don't stick all the way through National Signing Day.
UA has not offered Grigsby at this point, but Arizona remains one of the schools Raby has mentioned he likes quite a bit. His plan is to make a decision before the season despite all the restrictions that have been placed on recruits during this time, so UA will have to work diligently to make another move before he reaches that point in the process.
"I'm planning on deciding before for my senior season," Raby recently told BlackandGold.com. "So I can focus on winning a state championship."
It wouldn't be a shock to see him make a decision without seeing a campus in person, so that shouldn't put the Wildcats at a disadvantage.
