Just watched the video clips from yesterday from Heeke and RR. To me they were very telling. My opinion only, but I would say that RR's seeming change of post-season bowl philosophy from a chance at "extended spring practice" to 50/50 getting ready for a bowl game speaks to a sense of urgency to make up for three late season losses and an ASU game that Heeke clearly is still enraged over, 9 days later. If I remember correctly someone posted that they saw Heeke at the ASU game and he was incredibly angry after the game and the poster hoped it was about the terrible "comeback" block penalty that potentially cost us the game. I would suggest his anger appears to be focused on RR and most likely his very poor decision-making for the last two minutes of the first half and the first 8 minutes of the second half. That is what cost us the game. You gotta figure that while Heeke, like most new AD's would be aware of the importance of rivalry games, has no emotion at this point in losing to ASU any more than he would to USC or Oregon or any other conference rival. However, we already know he has been open in his concerns about the terrible home attendance, is aware of RR's admission that he completely missed on recruiting Poly's and Texas, and he has to wonder how a serious Heisman candidate is sitting on the bench and is only "discovered" when the poor performing starter goes down with an injury in the middle of his second season. In addition, Heeke is probably wondering how it can happen that one week before the final game of the season, RR is holding tryouts for a punter and all three first, second and third string punters are healthy and still available. And then, we all saw what happened in the ASU game when RR first tried one and then the other with the same miserable results.
We would be foolish to can RR now and once again RR has an opportunity to make hay at others expense if for no other reason then he may be one of the last men standing in the PAC 12. But, I would bet money, that AD Heeke and RR have talked and talked recently and Heeke has made it clear that he expects positive results and very soon. Just my opinion.
