More of Arizona's commits were able to begin their seasons last week giving us some more to digest about the class now that the player are all back on the field. There were certainly some standouts in the first full week of action for a lot of UA's commits.
Here's a rundown of how many of them ended up doing last week starting off with the top member of the class.
Update: Arizona's quarterback commit is much more of an in-game standout than a camp standout and his ranking took a hit in the spring and summer months as he struggled to look the part in several camp settings. Still, they play football with pads and that has typically been when he's at his best. Gunnell's team Beaumont United 55-21 and the UA quarterback commit had himself quite the 2018 debut. He threw the ball 40 times and had just seven incompletions to finish with 414 passing yards and five touchdowns through the air. He ran for two more scores on eight carries for 46 yards in the win. St. Pius X will host La Marque this Friday and I plan on being there to check out Gunnell and the other UA targets on his team.
Update: Friday night Watson's Fresno-Edison team faced Buchanan from Clovis, California – a team that features a few Arizona targets Jalen Cropper, Kendall Milton and Matt Merritt – and it turned into a blowout for Buchanan with the end result being a 45-6 game. There have still been no stats posted for Watson but he did have an impressive rush that he posted to Hudl.
Update: Roland and his Knight team faced Burroughs High Friday night and earned the first win of the season with a 28-6 victory. The UA defensive back pledge played a lot of safety in the game and came up with several tackles and a couple interceptions in the win plus he returned a punt for a touchdown as well.
Update: Wiley's Strake Jesuit squad opened its season with a win Friday against St. Thomas Catholic (Houston, Texas). The UA running back pledge had a big night with two touchdowns and 205 yards on the ground in the 56-32 win at NRG Stadium in Houston. The highlight play was a 96-yard run for one of those two touchdowns.
Update: Johnson visited Arizona for his official visit the night after his team had a tough game down in Orange County against Tesoro. The 35-6 loss for Roosevelt was the first defeat of the season for Johnson's team and he finished the game with three catches for 28 yards on what was a rough night for the offense. His team will have another tough game this week as it takes on Anaheim-Servite.
Update: Bradford's Skyline squad dropped a close game, 10-7, with fellow UA commit Derrion Clark's South Oak Cliff squad out in Dallas. You can read more about the game from one of our own here on the boards who was at the game.
Update: Clark was the standout of the game between to two UA commits with the linebacker pledge collecting 15 tackles including three tackles for loss.
Update: Morgan's Marana squad moved to 3-0 on the year with a 35-20 win over Catalina Foothills last week as its hot start to the season continues. Morgan helped pace the offensive line that led to the Tigers rushing for 118 yards and three touchdowns in the game. There were also only two tackles for loss allowed by Marana as well.
Update: We are still gathering information on Siaumau and his senior season at Leone High
Update: St. Thomas More's first game of the season will come against Nordrhein-Westfalen Green Machine from Dusseldorf, Germany this Saturday.
Update: Ostendorp's Desert Vista squad had the week off last week, but this week his team will host Surprise-Valley Vista. So far this season the UA punter commit has had five opportunities for punts with an average just over 45 yards.
