Arizona picked up a late 2017 commitment from former Boise State defensive tackle and current Coffeyville (Kan.) Coffeyville CC player Dereck Boles tonight. It was all heading this way after his visit and tonight he made the call and got things done. The 6-foot-3, 290-pounder had 66 tackles and five sacks a season ago. Once he was found not guilty in the mayhem case for biting part of a teammates ear at a party Arizona made its move and felt strongly enough to move forward. In this class in particular the Wildcats have been more open to taking players with some baggage, but that is also not something new. Rich Rodriguez and his staff believe in giving guys second chances as long as they can show that those things are in the past.
Noah Jefferson, Donavan Tate and now Boles all have something that has come up in the past, but all have talent. UA hopes Boles will be able to stay on the right track and help the defensive line this season. His connection to Marcel Yates helped push things along and he has ties to Florida where Arizona recruits as well in Lakeland.
Because he redshirted and then played a season at Boise State before going to Coffeyville CC Boles will have two years to play two at UA.
