Arizona had itself a busy day with a string of new offers going out from the coaching staff. Here's a rundown of the new UA targets that come from both the 2021 and 2022 classes.
Other notable offers: Stanford, Washington, Cal, Washington State, Michigan, Duke, Boise State
Rundown: The defensive lineman from Washington was written about today by Rivals.com national analyst Adam Gorney as one of the defensive prospects from the West who could have been helped by a camp season this year. His stock has continued to rise even without the extra exposure and Arizona is just the latest program to get involved with the 6-foot-2 recruit.
"He hits like a truck and he does a great job getting off the blocks," Gorney wrote today.
As for his recruitment, Stanford offered him within the last couple weeks and the Cardinal have gained plenty of buzz in his recruitment but most of the main schools involved have come onboard in the last two months so most programs are on an even playing field. UA will certainly have a bit of an uphill task but his abilities could absolutely help the Wildcats' defense down the line. He had 60 tackles and 9.5 sacks in his junior season at Tumwater High.
Other notable offers: Hawaii, New Mexico, North Texas, UNLV, Utah State, Montana State
Rundown: While Schuster has seen a recent rush of Power Five offers, Morgan has had to wait for the big offer to roll through. Arizona became the first Power Five school to offer the defensive back from Texas after his conversation with defensive line coach Stan Eggen who is leading his recruitment. The Tyler native is certainly going under the radar at this point with his biggest offers coming from Mountain West schools prior to his offer from UA. However, he has a solid skill set and has good size for his position. He has strong natural instincts and shows good command and awareness at the position.
There have been several Power Five level schools that have shown interest so the offer from the Wildcats might only be the first of several that come his way moving forward, so UA getting involved now is a good thing.
Other notable offers: Pittsburgh, UTSA, Rice, New Mexico, Louisiana Tech, Yale, Dartmouth
Rundown: Arizona has already had a Trevor Wood as part of the program in recent years so why not add a Trevor Woods? The 2021 recruit from Katy, Texas has an interesting early offer list with schools from all over the country already reaching out and giving him an opportunity to join their program. Pittsburgh was the first Power Five program to offer him as the Panthers decided to get involved back in February. UA is now the second one to do so and it will give him the opportunity to stay a bit closer to home than if he decided to play at Pitt. UA special teams coach Jeremy Springer will lead the recruit for the Wildcats as Katy is one of his responsibilities for the staff.
Woods is a versatile recruit who could play either safety or linebacker although he will most likely end up in the secondary in college. He is another recruit who shows good instincts with his ability to intercept passes and he has a nice awareness out on the field.
"I had three pick-six’s in the playoffs, so that helped add stats for me and gave me more plays to showcase my talents on a bigger stage," he previously told Panther-Lair.
As a junior Woods had 17 tackles for loss, eight sacks, five forced fumbles and four interceptions.
Other notable offers: Cal, Auburn, Florida State, Michigan State, Indiana
Rundown: The recruit with the most impressive offer list of the bunch is the youngest member of the group that Arizona offered on Thursday. In-state prospect Zac Swanson is just a sophomore at Brophy Prep in Phoenix but he has offers from some notable Power Five programs but before Thursday he had just one Pac-12 offer on his list. UA joined Cal in offering the 6-foot-3 defensive end giving Swanson an opportunity to stay close to home.
Springer will lead the recruitment for Swanson as well since he is one of the Phoenix-area recruiters for the Wildcats, but Eggen will also aid him in the process as the defensive line coach. It will certainly be a tough battle as Swanson is already shaping up to be a prospect who will have several out-of-state options at the Power Five level.
Brophy Prep has plenty of young talent in the 2022 class and Arizona has been focused on the school as of late. Still, getting involved this early with the sophomore recruit is a sign that UA is serious and will make him a priority in the class.
