Here's another name to keep an eye on for the 2023 class. It is probably going to be an uphill climb for the Wildcats, but Arizona is the latest offer for high three-star edge rusher Hunter Clegg from American Fork, Utah. The 6-foot-4 prospect has been on the rise in recent weeks, and UA decided to jump in with an offer to him late last month. Oregon, USC (re-offered), West Virginia, Cal and Washington are some of his other recent offers over the last month or so.
His brother just signed up as a preferred walk-on player at Utah, and that could ultimately hold some weight as well.
Arizona has Jason Kaufusi recruiting him, so there are some direct Utah connections there for the Wildcats. So far his impression of Arizona has been positive, and he is looking forward to getting to know the program. At this point he doesn't have any plan set in stone to visit Arizona, but he is hopeful that he can get on campus at some point before making a decision.
He is kind of an interesting story. He was playing WR on the JV team at American Fork as a sophomore before deciding to add weight and make the move to defense. That move helped him get recruiting attention from college coaches, and now he is becoming a highly-targeted prospect. At this point he is undecided on whether or not he will serve an LDS mission right out of high school. He says he will pick a school first then talk that over with the staff.
Clegg definitely has plenty of upside and would be a very nice piece for the Wildcats to add in the 2023 class.
“I’m going to do a lot more exploring in the spring, but from what I’ve seen they’re definitely gonna be on the rise in the next few years and doing a lot better than they have been. I think it’s a beautiful place. The whole state of Arizona and especially the college as well is just an attractive place to go. So that, paired with new coaching and a little wave of recruiting, could mean a lot of good things.”
