Arizona had a busy week with new offers and there a couple more to report including one that went out today to a junior college defensive back who has flown a bit under the radar this spring. Here is a look at a couple of the new defensive back offers that went out from the UA staff in the last few days.
Safety Chad Brown - Fresno City College
Offers: TCU, Colorado State
Rundown: Arizona ended a big of a drought as far as offers go for Fresno City College defensive back Chade Brown this afternoon. The Wildcats became the third program to offer the 6-foot-3 prospect who is originally from Maryland. UA is the second Power Five program to offer him as TCU joined in with an offer last month. Colorado State offered him back in March. Since the offer from TCU things have been a bit quiet but now Arizona has jumped in giving the junior college prospect an option in the Pac-12.
Brown is a big defensive back checking in at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds. He put together a solid first season at Fresno City with 24 tackles, a fumble recovery and six interceptions. One of those interceptions he returned for a touchdown during the 2019 season.
Arizona is going to need some more depth at safety in the coming years and Brown shows a knack for making plays and displays good awareness and range on film. He would be a nice piece for UA to have in the mix for 2021 in the secondary.
Offers: Utah, Oregon State, Boston College, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, Northwestern, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, Boise State, Houston, UTSA, SMU
Rundown: Earlier in the week UA offered another defensive back, but this one will have a bit more time at the next level than Brown since he is still in high school. South Grand Prairie defensive back Jalon Williams now has 20 offers on his list with the Wildcats coming on board joining fellow Pac-12 programs Utah and Oregon State. The three-star prospect has numerous Power Five offers from across the country giving him plenty of options.
He also has several offers from his home state with Texas Tech, Houston, UTSA and SMU all being options if he wants to stay close to home.
The Wildcats have continued to stay active in Texas once again this spring, but Dallas has particularly been an area the UA staff has spent more time focused on this year. Williams is just one of the latest recruits from the area to pick up an Arizona offer.
Williams is another prospect who has seen his recruitment go at a quicker pace once the spring hit and the recruiting dead period was put into place. Despite coaches not being able to get a look at him in person the last couple months he has continued to add new offers making the process an interesting one for the Texas defensive back, who also is a track athlete.
"I try to maintain a relationship with every coaching staff and program that has offered me," he recently told Red Raider Sports. "I have been doing a lot more video chats and have seen a lot more communication from coaches lately."
Visits are going to be an important part of the process for Williams as he moves ahead through the process, so his hope is that once restrictions are relaxed he can get out and see some schools. Arizona will certainly be pushing to get him on campus when it is possible.
"I did not get to take any visits this off-season," he said. "I was looking to do that during spring break and the summer, but all visits have been cancelled for now with the virus. I'm waiting for things to clear up, then I will plan some visits."
The uncertainty has made the process of coming to a decision on a commitment more difficult so his hope to decide during the summer ahead of his senior season is certainly up in the air at this stage.
"I will start narrowing down my options to a top 10, then go from there," he said. "I might end up waiting, see what happens with visits and try to take as many unofficial visits as possible before scheduling any official visits."
