Arizona has added another in-state commitment today as Gilbert-Highland safety/linebacker Ammon Allen finally made things official with the Wildcats. UA made a late offer to him in recent weeks and he eventually made it down to Tucson for a visit before pulling the trigger on his decision. He is expected to step into the "Viper" role for the Wildcats in Don Brown's defense which will have him play a hybrid safety/linebacker role in the defense.
UA was the only Power Five offer for the 6-foot-3 prospect, but the staff wants to continue focusing on in-state players and he fit the role nicely for Brown and the defensive staff. He's someone I could see contributing early in his career because of how well he fits that position.
His decision leaves the program with just one spot remaining in the 2021 class for a scholarship player. At this point we'll see if the staff decides to move on someone or holds off until after spring. At this point I'm expecting that spot to be used for the 2021 class and not be held for next year, but there is still some uncertainty about that from the sounds of it.
