Arizona has landed its 19th commitment in the 2021 class as Los Angeles-Locke HS standout defensive end Ja'Quez Harvey has given the program his pledge over offers from Oregon, Arizona State, Utah, Colorado, Kansas and several others. The Wildcats have some built-in connections to the school through Greg Burns, but something the worked in UA's favor in this recruitment is the fact that former UA defensive back Mike Klyce is the head coach at Locke.
Harvey will help continue the positive momentum the Wildcats have been able to build in recent weeks with the 6-foot-3 defensive end being a recruit Kevin Sumlin's coaching staff had beat out other Power Five programs for. I have been a bit critical of the level of prospects Arizona has taken commitments from early in the class, but as of late the Wildcats have turned that around and are beating out some tough competition for recruits.
The three-star prospect is another one who had some impressive offers on his list and Arizona's coaches were able to overcome that to land his pledge. I like what he brings to the table as a physical prospect who has plenty of room for development at the next level. He will give Stan Eggen and the rest of the coaches another option off the edge as he could be used as a standup pass rusher or with his hand in the ground.
He is going to have to refine his technique some more in college to be completely effective since he has relied mostly on his natural gifts up to this point, but he absolutely has the natural ability to become an important piece of the defense in the coming years.
