Arizona has landed a new commitment this afternoon. San Francisco defensive tackle Evan Branch-Haynes was actually the top player on the "Temperature Gauge" story I'm planning on releasing next so it makes sense that he's the next commit. The 6-foot-1 recruit has good size and mobility to help on the defensive line and will be a solid piece for defensive line coach Stan Eggen to work with next year.
He missed some time during his junior season and it impacted his team greatly. He's a big piece to lose and that also didn't help his recruitment since coaches have not been able to see him in person this spring.
UA was able to get a tip and liked what it saw from the film he does have and decided to offer him back in early May. Since then the Wildcats have done a good job of building up a relationship with him and it paid off with his decision to pick the program today.
Outside receivers coach Taylor Mazzone led the recruitment for UA, and it has been important for the program to continue building up its recruiting efforts in the region.
Branch-Haynes has some good speed and strength but still has to work a bit more on his technique. I could see him being an early contributor, however, and it's a solid addition to the class for the Wildcats. He's likely going to see more interest come his way once the season arrives or whenever coaches can get an in-person look at him so it's good for Arizona to get him on board now.
