It's the last big visit weekend for June at Arizona, and the Wildcats again have some key recruits on campus. As you already know from Jedd Fisch's GIFs on Twitter, there have been a few more commitments already happen this weekend. Like previous weeks, you likely will not hear about them publicly until Monday or Tuesday as Saturday has been the day for photos and video shoots for the recruits and it takes the program a couple days to turn those around for the new commits. Still, it is another positive weekend and the Wildcats will inch closer to 20 commitments in the coming days. Here's a rundown of who's on campus and who to watch closely as a possible commitment.
Top competition: Oregon, Miami, Florida, Cal, Tennessee, Virginia
Temperature: Hot
Rundown: The biggest visitor of the weekend for Arizona would be the team's highest-rated commitment along the offensive line in quite some time. Laloulu plays at St. Louis High School and played alongside Jonah Savaiinaea and currently plays with commit Julian Savaiinaea. For whatever reason his recruitment has taken off like you would expect a prospect that is rated as high as he is, but Arizona has never wavered in its interest. The Wildcats have really been the only program in focus for the impressive four-star offensive lineman and at this point it is likely only a matter of time before he pulls the trigger on a commitment. My belief is he doesn't leave Tucson without committing to the Wildcats.
Top competition: Washington, Colorado, USC, Stanford
Temperature: Warm
Rundown: The Scottsdale-Chaparral defensive lineman has shot up in a hurry when it comes to his stock this spring. Once coaches had an opportunity to see him in person the offers started to roll in. This is an important time for his recruitment, and the Wildcats were able to sneak him in for a visit ahead of a string of trips. He will take official visits to Colorado and Washington in the coming days before taking unofficial visits to USC and Stanford. This trip came together quickly as even a couple days ago it wasn't in place, but it is important for UA to get him on campus and it could change a lot about the process. I wouldn't expect a decision until after his upcoming visits, but for now UA is in a good spot. He would play defensive end for the Wildcats.
Top competition: Kansas State, Kansas, Wisconsin, BYU
Temperature: Hot
Rundown: The big receiver feels like a natural fit for what the Wildcats are looking for at the position. He is good enough to contribute right away but also has plenty of room to develop. He is a multi-sport athlete with strong athletic bloodlines as his dad, Junior, played professional baseball for a long time. There are other schools in the mix, but Arizona has made it clear that he is a priority and is someone the staff really has put a lot of effort into landing. This is another recruitment that feels close to being over, and the Wildcats are in a strong position.
Top competition: Washington, Washington State, Oregon State, Iowa State
Temperature: Hot
Rundown: Arizona has prioritized the versatile recruit from Chandler-Hamilton. Smith would come in as a safety for the Wildcats and the staff really likes what he brings to the table with his length. The program has a natural connection to defensive players at Hamilton with Jimmie Dougherty's dad being the defensive coordinator there. At this point other schools have made up some ground but Arizona is the clear leader and this is one recruitment that feels close to being over.
Top competition: Cal, Washington, Washington State
Temperature: Warmer
Rundown: The impressive edge rusher from Central California has been a priority target for the program for quite some time now. The Wildcats are locked in a battle with Cal, Washington and Washington State with the first two of those programs being the top contenders alongside UA. Cal has made a big push to keep Moore close to home and feels like the team to beat. However, UW and Arizona have given him a lot to think about as well. This is a big visit for the Wildcats, because landing a commitment from Moore would give the Wildcats some true stability at the position for a while since he is a big-time prospect. He is likely to make a decision soon, so UA being one of his last visits is key. Cal is going to get him on campus for an official visit next weekend and will look to close with a commitment, so this is a key trip for UA.
Top competition: Oregon State
Temperature: Warmer
Rundown: This is a newer name on the list, but Arizona has made its move with the defensive back from Washington. He cancelled an official visit to Oregon this weekend in favor of making the trek down to Tucson, so that is a positive sign for the process with him. At this stage it is shaping up to be either Oregon State or the Wildcats. He has made multiple trips to Corvallis, so the Beavers likely have the edge here. However, Arizona has made up a lot of ground recently ahead of a likely commitment in the coming weeks.
Top competition: Oregon State (committed)
Temperature: Warm
Rundown: Arizona has been in the mix with the longtime Oregon State commit for a while now, and he is finally making his official visit with the program. He has a relationship with Arizona quarterback commit Brayden Dorman, and that has been helpful in this process since Thomas wants to play with the future UA signal caller. This feels like a flip in the making, and it likely is only a matter of time before he eventually makes the move.
Top competition: Washington State, Fresno State, Colorado State, Boise State
Temperature: Warm
Rundown: Stop if you've heard this before, but Fernandez is a recruit who could play several different positions in college. He is a versatile prospect on both sides of the ball who has served different roles for his team at San Pedro High in California. Arizona is one of the schools that likes him on defense as an edge rusher, and that is something that is a little different than other schools in the process. This is another battle that involves Washington State while some G5 schools have also been in the mix. A decision timeline has been up in the air, but he hasn't ruled out an earlier decision either. This is his first official visit in the process.
Top competition: Washington, Washington State, UCLA
Temperature: Warmer
Rundown: The Las Vegas-based athlete prospect is another recruit who could play a variety of positions. The likely landing spot in college is linebacker, however, and the Wildcats certainly want to continue to bolster that position. At this stage UA is among a top group that includes both Washington and Washington State, but a recent offer from UCLA could make things a bit more interesting. So far he has only made an official visit to Washington State, but the trip to Tucson this weekend is a big one that could change things in his recruitment.
Top competition: Washington State, Colorado State
Temperature: Warmer
Rundown: Right now there is a battle going on for the two-way athlete from Simi Valley, California. Brown has been on the rise entering the summer and he has formed a top three of Arizona, Washington State and Colorado State. Arizona is currently the last school scheduled to get an official visit from him this month, so a decision is likely to come soon. Though he plays on both sides of the ball, he is expected to stick to defense in college where he projects as a safety. He could play receiver as well since that is what he has been most known for as a high school prospect. He was close to committing to Wazzu earlier in the month, so it will be interesting to see if Arizona can get him to change his mind having the last trip before a likely decision.
Top competition: Oregon State, Washington, Oregon, ASU, Utah, BYU
Temperature: Warm
Rundown: The versatile athlete could play several positions at the next level, and he is being treated as such by Arizona. The Wildcats are pursuing the two-way prospect to play on both sides of the ball along the offensive and defensive lines. The likely scenario is that he ends up on the offensive line if he picks the Wildcats, but he could easily play on the interior of the defensive line if needed. At this point UA is among the schools at the top, but he has no plans of committing soon as he continues to see new interest come in. Tafai previously played at Alemany High School in Los Angeles, which has been the home of several current UA players and commits. At Leuzinger, he is coached by former UA tight end Brandon Manumaleuna.
