Arizona's coaches are now all in Tucson and are getting to work on the recruiting side with only a couple weeks until the start of the next signing period. Jedd Fisch and his staff have had their focus on in-state prospects as of late and that has continued. Despite having just four available spots in the class the staff decided to make another offer to a high school recruit Saturday and that is just the latest offer to a prospect from Arizona in the last couple days. Here's a rundown of the latest offer news for the Wildcats.
2021
Notable offers: Army, Air Force, Navy, Idaho, New Mexico State, Eastern Michigan
Rundown: While you might think Arizona would be only pursuing recruits with other Power Five offers at this stage in the process that would be incorrect, and the newest offer from the staff on Saturday went to a member of the 2021 class who has yet to pick up an offer from a Power Five school. Arizona is the first top-level offer for Gilbert-Highland safety/linebacker Ammon Allen. The 6-foot-3 recruit has received offers from smaller programs, but he had conversations with defensive coordinator Don Brown and safeties coach Chuck Cecil this week leading to his offer earlier today. Brown has used a "VIPER" linebacker in his 4-3 scheme previously and that player is someone who plays both safety and linebacker. Allen seems like he could be a good fit for that position with his speed, coverage ability and size. He's going to have to move quickly with the process to ensure his spot if he wants to come to Arizona and right now the feeling is the Wildcats are in a great position to land him.
Rundown: Staying with in-state prospects the staff decided to offer a preferred walk-on spot to Queen Creek offensive lineman Jaxon McBride. The former 2020 recruit decided to take a prep season and head to Milford Academy in New York. He says that Arizona is his dream school so it could just be a matter of time before he joins the class. McBride would be a heck of a PWO addition considering he is ranked as a three-star prospect and previously received attention from several programs including offers from Utah and UAB. USC, UCLA and West Virginia were just some of the programs that had interest in him and had him out for a visit earlier in his recruitment. I've watched him in person before at the Rivals Camp and he certainly has impressive size and the type of skill set that you like to see up front so it would be a nice get for the Wildcats especially if they don't have to use a scholarship.
2022
Notable offers: Arizona State, Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, USC, Auburn, Nebraska, Tennessee, San Jose State
Rundown: Targeting top-level juniors has certainly been a theme for Arizona so far under Jedd Fisch and that continued the last couple days with the most notable recruit to add an offer being Jadyn Marshall from St. Mary's High School in Stockton, California. The clear connection for the four-star receiver is who offered him previously. One of the programs was San Jose State where Kevin Cummings was the coach involved in his recruitment for the Spartans. The Northern California connection could end up being important and so it makes it a no-brainer type of offer for the Wildcats. USC has done a good job of emerging as a leader in his recruitment so the task to pull him to Arizona could be plenty difficult but right now the Wildcats are going to be in the mix with Cummings leading the way.
Notable offers: Arizona State, Utah, Michigan State, Indiana, Colorado State
Rundown: Grayson Stovall is a player who already held an offer from the Wildcats' previous staff but he was re-offered this week by Fisch and the new staff at Arizona. The offensive lineman is a bit of a unique in-state recruit as he is from Colorado but when the high school season was unclear he decided to move to Arizona and play at Hamilton in Chandler. The connection for UA to that school now is quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Jimmie Dougherty whose father is a coach on the staff at Hamilton. That certainly won't hurt Arizona's chances for a prospect like Stovall so he will be someone to watch as the process moves ahead whether he stays in Arizona or moves back to Colorado for his senior season.
Rundown: Staying at Hamilton High junior defensive end Russell "Deuce" Davis II is someone who plays for Dougherty's dad on the defensive side of the ball. His own dad won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants and played in the NFL for eight seasons so there are some strong bloodlines. Arizona is the first offer overall for Davis and that is going to be important when it comes to in-state prospects. UA has lost out on some homegrown recruits because they weren't the first to offer. Knowing Davis well gives UA the inside track in this instance and he is likely going to add a lot more offers before all is said and done. He has impressive speed to go with his length and while he'll need to add some more bulk to be effective at the college level he has all the tools to play Power Five football.
Notable offers: Michigan State (committed), Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Utah, Minnesota, Nebraska, Vanderbilt
Rundown: Arizona was one of the finalists for Gavin Broscious as he was one of the top targets for the previous staff. UA's new coaches have decided to offer him even after he committed to Michigan State back in November. Obviously there is a long time before he is allowed to sign in December so there's no harm in continuing to recruit him. I've seen Broscious in person and have talked to him about the process and he is certainly quite open to staying home to play football but the appeal of the Big Ten style of play has appealed to him more. If the Wildcats continue to put effort into recruiting him I could see him eventually reconsidering his options but for now the communication with the new coaches can begin.
