Arizona wrapped up its first practice of the day at Fort Huachuca this morning and while there were no pads or helmets it was still a good look since it was open for the media.
Here are today's quick notes
* Safety Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles was the star of the day picking off Anu Solomon twice during practice. He looke very good and the interceptions weren't easy ones. The throws weren't great but it took some real work and skill for DFF to bring them in.
* Injury wise Tony Ellison remains out and working off to the side and Sammy Morrison is officially off the 105 camp roster while he works through an injury. Christian Boettcher was able to give it a go today during practice.
* Some guys we've all seen but impressed me today were Trevor Wood and Marcus Griffin. Wood had a couple really nice deep catches down the field. He looked so natural doing that. Griffin meanwhile bated down a pass on a play that got the players and coaches excited.
* JJ Taylor continues to show that he has the chance to be very very good in college and there has been plenty of talk about his hands but today Nick Wilson said he feels the freshman ha the best footwork on the entire team. He'll play this year.
* I thought Aiulua Fanene showed his progress today. He is going to factor into things this season based on what I saw today. He is one of the best at getting in the backfield with that defensive line right now. Sometimes he isn't going against the best competition but he was pretty impressive in that regard today.
Standouts of the day: Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, Trevor Wood, Can Denson, Darick Holmes
Play(s) of the day: Anu Solomon made a tough throw on a deep ball to Trey Griffey that took quite a bit of touch from the QB; Brandon Dawkins hit Samajie Grant on a 60-yard deep ball to beat the defense
Freshman to watch: Isaiah Hayes seems to have grabbed the attention of the staff at safety. I can't say any more but the confidence in him seems to be growing. He wasn't perfect today but he looks like a strong candidate to play this year.
