I will have a lot more a little later, but I wanted to drop a few thoughts here since tonight was one of the best opportunities to watch the team in action in camp yet. Kevin Sumlin again allowed the media to stay for quite a while and was probably the most we have been able to watch in a single practice. This included getting a chance to watch about 15 minutes of "live" action with the groups all circulating through on the field.

* I'm going to start with the mood at practice today. Kevin Sumlin was channeling his inner Rich Rodriguez today in a way I have never seen from him before. He was not in happy with a lot of what was going on at practice Tuesday and he made his way around to each group for the first portion of practice to give them a piece of his mind. It was the most yelling I have seen from him during his time at UA. He was animated as I can remember and he was even yelling after good plays picking out things that could have been better.

At one point he told the crew working the sound system to pump the music up louder to make things harder on the players. It felt calculated to me and like he was trying to make a point, but it seemed to be getting the results he wanted. I wouldn't expect it to be the norm from him, but he was certainly making his opinions heard tonight.

* As for the live portion of practice there were several standout plays highlighted by a few key ones that I will post videos of below and talk about a little bit.

On this play Rhett Rodriguez hit Stanley Berryhill III down the field after the UA receiver was able to get some separation on freshman cornerback Bobby Wolfe. It was a nice adjustment on the throw by Berryhill and got the offense excited for sure.

On this play Justin Belknap was able to snag part of the jersey of running back Bam Smith to pull him in and Tony Fields II helped wrap him up. It was a nice defensive play all around for the first-team defense against the second-team offense. Josh Donovan got rolled up on a little bit at the end but he looked fine after that for those wondering.

On this play it was clear to see how valuable JB Brown can be to the defensive front. He sliced through the offensive line for this tackle for loss as he took down Gary Brightwell on the play. Brown was in on a couple plays in the backfield and he was probably the best performer during the short "live" period of practice. He had a different energy about him Tuesday night.

* I will say that this is the first practice that Khalil Tate didn't look his sharpest. He missed a couple open receivers on a couple plays and wasn't able to move his group down the field much during the portion of practice open to the media. Meanwhile, Grant Gunnell was running the second group as he has been lately and looks to be in position to earn the No. 2 job as things continue to move along. He didn't make any standout plays in the open portion of practice, but he was solid in the individual part of practice.
