Arizona is starting the week out getting ready for Arizona State and after a light practice Sunday night the 'Cats have Monday off. The team met with the media Monday afternoon to discuss the final week of the regular season before the open date next week. Here are some quick notes from what was discussed Monday.

* To start things off Rich Rodriguez briefly spoke about Anu Solomon and his health after taking a hit against Utah that eventually knocked him out of the game. Rodriguez said he will call Solomon "day to day" with that head injury. Rodriguez said it was a light day Sunday and the trainers feel good about where he is at and he will continue to be monitored this week. At this point Rodriguez said the staff is "optimistic" about him for this week.

* Rodriguez confirmed Jake Matthews' injury and he will indeed miss the season. The UA head coach said he fell into the "mike linebacker curse" with the injury and he is set to have surgery Friday. He will miss spring ball but the long term prognosis is good for a full recovery and return next season.

* When it comes to the ASU game Rodriguez said Arizona will likely not have curtains to hide their calls from the Sun Devils, but they will have different methods for getting the calls in. It doesn't sound like something Rodriguez or his staff is too concerned about at this point.

* Rodriguez said he was impressed with Paul Magloire's toughness in the last game and continues to like his grit at that linebacker position. The former safety lost a tooth during the game, but has since had a new one put in.

* Casey Skowron was named the Pac-12 special teams player of the week today and it is the first conference award for an Arizona player this year. The UA kicker was 3-for-3 on field goal tries against Utah.
