The first day of August marks the first day for college football programs to send out official scholarship offers and so far the offers have been flying out to recruits all over the country. Most of the official offers have been focused on the current commits since the Wildcats coaches need to continue showing those prospects the most attention.
Here's a look at what the recruits are receiving from Arizona with the official offer. In past years the official written offers have been mailed to the recruits, but these days most programs just send them virtually so that they can be shared on social media.
There will be some recruits who don't receive official offers from the program and it is at that point that they will understand that Arizona has either looked in another direction, filled up at their position or that their offer was never a committable one. Either way the program is going to narrow its focus down a bit and that process will happen with the official written offers going out today.
Because of that you can expect that every new offer that goes out from this point on will go to prospects the coaches truly want on board in the 2021 class.
Memphis commit adds Arizona offer
Other notable offers: Memphis (committed) Arkansas, Houston, Nebraska, Nevada
Rundown: It doesn't happen all that often, but New Orleans, Louisiana native Myron Green transferred as a junior college player after his first season. Last year he was a productive player at Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College as he he finished the 2019 season with 49 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, five sacks and a forced fumble. He has since transferred to City College of San Francisco opening a new door for him and Arizona.
The Wildcats have some ties to the area through outside receivers coach Taylor Mazzone and in addition to that the program has the Louisiana and junior college connections through inside receivers coach Theron Aych that could help as well. Defensive line coach Stan Eggen is the one who made the offer to Green today, however, and I would expect the Wildcats to be a player in his recruitment moving forward.
One hurdle will be Memphis, which has locked up several Louisiana-based in the class so far. Green committed to the Tigers back in April but it certainly sounds like he will be open to a potential flip and that is why Arizona has become involved.
Nobody has recruited the state of Louisiana better than UA in this cycle and with the Wildcats also having some success at the junior college ranks and ties to California all the pieces certainly fit.
Green was recently named a preseason first-team All-American by JC Gridiron and he is in a position to have a monster 2020 season. Arizona would love to add some more help on the interior of the defensive line with four seniors as part of the group this year who will have to move on next season. Green would help bridge the gap until the Wildcats can develop some more talent and add some more talent in coming years.
He is going to be one prospect to watch at the process continues to move ahead. So far he is the first new target to earn an official offer from the Wildcats.
