Arizona's coaches continue to stay busy during the quarantine dead period as they make calls and reach out to prospects with new offers. The Wildcats have already made a few new offers to begin the week including one prospect who has strong ties to UA through his family.
Here's a rundown of a couple of the other newest UA targets.
It is no secret that Arizona wants to increase the size up front along both the offensive and defensive lines. The staff was able to do that with some additions on the defensive side earlier this year, but the work on the offensive side continues. Many of the newest offensive line offers have gone to prospects with great size and Monday the Wildcats offered another tall prospect as 6-foot-6 tackle Cole Carson added UA to his growing offer list.
The multi-sport athlete from Rivercrest in Bogata, Texas is already seeing plenty of programs enter his recruitment, but Arizona is the first program from the Pac-12 to make things official with an offer. Offensive line coach Kyle DeVan and running backs coach AJ Steward will lead the recruitment for UA, but there will be a bit of an uphill battle to climb in the process.
Arkansas has quickly jumped out as an early favorite after Carson was able to get to the campus for a visit prior to the emergency dead period going into place a couple weeks ago.
"I thought the visit was great." Carson recently said. "I loved all the facilities and all the people and everything. I’m looking forward to coming down for an official visit this summer.
"They said almost every school in the country is going to be wanting to offer me but you have to know which one is going to fulfill what you want."
Carson has a wide range of offers, however, and his list is about as diverse as you will find now that Arizona has brought a program from the Pac-12 into the picture. Air Force, Auburn, Baylor, Dartmouth, Louisiana-Monroe, Ole Miss, Penn, Southern Miss, Texas State, UTSA and Vanderbilt are the other programs that have already offered him.
His recruitment is likely only going to continue to expand once coaches are allowed to hit the road again to evaluate prospects in person, so it was a good idea for Arizona to get involved now.
Unlike Carson, who has a handful of Power Five offers already on the table, wide receiver recruit Antonio Robinson just added his first offer from a school in a major conference as Arizona broke the ice on Monday. The 6-foot-3 recruit from Melissa, Texas only has William and Mary as his other offer at this point in the process although programs such as Texas Tech, Illinois and Rice have also shown interest.
Robinson checks off a lot of the boxes as far as what Taylor Mazzone and the rest of the offensive coaching staff are looking for at the wide receiver position. He has length and that is the most important thing to the current coaching staff, but he also has good ball skills and shows a knack for being a strong blocker on film as well. He shows solid speed for his size on film and there is certainly plenty there for the coaching staff to work if he were to ultimately pick the Wildcats.
It won't be shocking to see other programs get involved now that Arizona has offered, but he certainly is someone to continue to watch as his recruitment unfolds.
