Arizona's search for a defensive coordinator is officially now over. The Wildcats are expected to announce Marcel Yates as the new defensive coordinator later today to make it officially official. Yates accepted the position last night, but he wanted to tell the Boise State players himself today before Arizona makes it official today.
Yates checks off all the criteria Arizona had when it set out to look for Jeff Casteel's replacement. He gives Arizona another recruiting pulse in Los Angeles but he is also a football mind that is well respected among the coaching ranks. There will be a renewed focus on development under Yates and with Donte Williams on board as well that will only add to that development aspect.
In addition to what Yates brings as a coach he also brings some youth back to the staff at 38 years old, which is something else Arizona had high on the list as it went through its search. It is inevitable that Arizona is going to have an uptick in recruiting and it now has one of the best recruiting defensive staffs in the Pac-12 Conference.
