The Division I Football Oversight Committee has recommended a new recruiting-focused proposal that would add two new early signing periods for football. Along with one in February, if adopted, there would be a three-day signing period the last Wednesday in June and another in December that would coincide with the start of the junior college early enrollee signing period.
The proposal would go into effect for the 2017-2018 signing year if adopted. There was no mention of earlier official visits with the proposal which has already raised a number of concerns.
In addition to that there is a proposal to add a tenth assistant coach to FBS staffs as well.
Not that it wouldn't change with under new rules — as it undoubtedly would — but Arizona had 19 commitments by the first Wednesday in June this year.
Rich Rodriguez has been outspoken on bringing no official signing period to college football and letting recruits sign whenever they are ready. He feels that would take all the pressure off and would give programs the best idea of where it stands with recruits with the least amount of grey area.
