Talked to Trech Kekahuna this week and he was unsure of what he wanted to do when it came to his decision. He's moving back to Hawaii soon and wanted to wait to make his decision with the rest of his family that isn't in Las Vegas. The reality is that for that to happen it would have to take place after the early signing period. So, he was a bit conflicted. Well, tonight he's decided to make a decision before heading back to Hawaii with his commitment being moved up to Saturday afternoon at halftime of Bishop Gorman's final game of the season. BG is taking on Chaminade-Madonna from Florida in the GEICO State Champions Bowl, and the 5-foot-11 receiver will announce his choice midway through the game.
Arizona, Oregon, ASU and Wisconsin, where he was previously committed. The Wildcats had Kekahuna out for an official visit in early December before he took a trip to Eugene to meet with Oregon.
The Ducks have had a lot of the buzz since offering because he has openly talked about that being his dream school. However, after talking with him I feel pretty confident that he is going to end up with the Wildcats. I didn't want to spoil anything so I never locked in a pick, but based on our conversation he does sound like someone who is Arizona bound.
The chance to reunite with Jayden de Laura (they played on the same team back in 2019 at St. Louis HS in Honolulu) has played a big part in this. He's looked heavily at that. Kenny Dillingham leaving Oregon likely played a role here as well. It took some of the luster away from the Ducks' offense for him it sounds like.
He was recently moved up to a four-star rating after a stellar senior season with Bishop Gorman. He posted some ridiculous numbers and looked the part of an instant-impact player. He obviously has a number of connections to UA with former teammates currently on the team and headed to the team next year, and I think has given him a high level of comfort with the Wildcats.
It's recruiting so a lot can happen between now and around 3 p.m. MST tomorrow, but I'd say there's a lot of confidence that he's going to be calling Tucson his home.
