The Pac-12 received the first portion of its awards this morning with Arizona well represented on the various lists. Deandre Ayton was of course the most popular Arizona player on team selections, which are voted on by the coaches.
Ayton, who averaged 19.9 points and 11.4 rebounds with 21 double doubles this season, was one of two Arizona players named to the Pac-12's first team as he made it along with junior guard Allonzo Trier. There were 10 players selected overall with Trier being one of just two players to earn multiple spots on an all-conference team in his career. The Seattle native averaged 18.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists for UA this season.
It was not over for Ayton Monday morning, however, with the freshman big man from The Bahamas also being named to the all-freshman team as well as the all-defensive team as well.
A couple other Wildcats were honored as well with senior center Dusan Ristic getting named to the Pac-12's second team with four other players including three other seniors. Ristic finished the regular season averaging 11.9 points and 6.9 rebounds for the 'Cats, but proved to be one of its emotional leaders as the season came to an end Saturday.
In addition to Ristic's selection to the second team, sophomore wing Rawle Alkisn earned an honorable mention nod despite missing the first part of the season as he recovered from foot surgery.
The rest of the awards, the individual awards such as coach of the year and player of the year, will be announced on the Pac-12 Network tonight at 6 p.m. MST. Ayton and UCLA's Aaron Holiday are the two frontrunners for the Pac-12 Player of the Year award while Washington's Mike Hopkins heads into the night as the leader for coach of the year. The individual awards are voted on by the media.
