Arizona has landed a commitment from three-star linebacker Matthew "Mojo" Weerts today. He announced the decision at a ceremony with his teammates. The longtime UA target had been leaning toward the Wildcats for quite some time now and he decided to pull the trigger on his decision today. He was one of the prospects I had previously referenced as being someone I could see commit before the end of last week. He is now the sixth UA commit of the month and the seventh on the defensive side of the ball in the 2021 class.
His connection with offensive line coach Kyle DeVan was important as DeVan recruited his brother back when he was at Ball State so there was already a lot of familiarity there. Weerts is someone who still needs some more development, but he's a gamer who should end up being a contributor at some point in his career.
It's a nice get and another recruit the Wildcats tried to let know that he had to make a decision soon. So far UA's efforts to push for some pledges has worked well this month and June, again, has been a big one for the Wildcats.
