Arizona made another offer to a lineman today as California-based prospect David Gusta added the Wildcats to his list. The 6-foot-3 recruit, who has been at Grand Terrace High School in Southern California, has been able to build a name for himself already with some offers throughout the region including Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico, Sacramento State, San Diego State and Montana State. Washington State was the first school to enter the mix quite a while back, but Arizona's offer is his first Power Five offer since that time.
Gusta is making the move to Cajon High School in San Bernardino for his senior season, and that is a school that has been able to put plenty of prospects at Power Five programs. That should only add to the attention the two-way lineman will receive moving forward.
He has potential on either side of the ball and earlier this year I had a chance to watch him in person at the Rivals Camp stop in Los Angeles. He worked on the offensive side of the ball that day, at least when I was around, and he certainly looks the part in a lot of ways. He has good size and would be able to hold his own as a college offensive lineman from the looks of it.
However, he could end up projecting better as a defensive lineman at the next level. UA defensive line coach Stan Eggen is the one leading the recruitment for the Wildcats and it will be interesting to see how aggressive the program becomes now that it has offered.
It is an intriguing under-the-radar offer for UA and one that the Wildcats should have a good chance to turn into a commitment as the process moves ahead.
