Rundown: Kevin Sumlin was at the Salpointe game Friday night as his son's team hosted Mountain Ridge from Glendale. One of the standout performers in the game was sophomore wide receiver Deric English and the 2023 recruit added an offer from the Wildcats this weekend. It was a great opportunity to get in front of a college head coach during the ongoing dead period. His work paid off as he now has his first Power Five offer. English had a couple really big catches in the loss and was impressive enough overall for the Wildcats to make their move. It is already his second season player varsity football and the expectation is that he will eventually become a national recruit. So, it's a good thing for UA to be the first Power Five school to jump in the mix with him.

Sumlin's MO at all his other stops has been to get involved with recruits very early in the process and that is starting to be the goal at Arizona now that he has some footing as a recruiter for the Wildcats.

English has good size at around 6-foot-4 and he continues to show off his impressive hands now into his sophomore season. He had a ridiculous one-handed grab in Friday night's game as well as a nice catch in the red zone. Arizona is going to continue to focus on the wide receiver position moving forward as the staff wants to make that one of the most talented positions on the roster. It's heading that direction but has not yet reached that point, so the staff is going to continue to work hard to add as much talent to the position as possible in the coming years.

For that reason the offer to someone like English makes complete sense.
