Notable offers: USC, Oregon, Oklahoma, Oregon, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Florida
Rundown: Arizona continues to target high-level recruits under the new coaching staff led by Jedd Fisch and the foray into recruiting in the Northeast has continued as well. It makes sense when you consider Fisch was just with the New England Patriots while new defensive coordinator Don Brown has spent plenty of time in his career in the New England area plus he's a Massachusetts native. The newest offer for the Wildcats went out today in Connecticut with four-star Cheshire Academy defensive end Wilfredo Aybar adding the Pac-12 program to his growing offer list. The 6-foot-4 prospect is no secret recruit as he already has a ton of Power Five offers as the 107th-rated recruit in the junior class. Oregon and USC are the other two Pac-12 programs that have offered him but Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Michigan and Nebraska have all offered him already as well.
Aybar is an active defensive prospect who has the size and skill set to play either defensive end or outside linebacker at the next level. He has impressive speed and get off with an ability to get into the backfield and make plays down the field as a tackler. I like what he brings to the table as a standup defensive end as it allows him to be more free to make plays, but he certainly shows plenty of promise as a difference maker right now.
His sample size during the 2020 season was small since his team was only able to play three games because of COVID-19 restrictions, but he continued to develop his game as a hand-in-the-ground defensive end as a junior. Though he dropped a bit, Aybar was previously rated as one of the top 100 prospects in the class by Rivals.com.
While you might be temped to write off the Wildcats one thing to note is that Michigan emerged as one of the leaders in his recruitment under Brown so there is certainly a connection there that will give the program a shot at being able to pull him across the country.
“He has incredible size and strength," his head coach at Cheshire Academy, David Dykeman, previously said. "He’s got a very, very powerful and amazingly quick first step. He uses his hands extremely well. Wilfredo is also a 50-foot-plus shot putter. He’s a phenomenal student in the classroom. He’s a great kid.”
While Cheshire might not be totally familiar to us out here in the West, it is one of the top programs in the area and is consistently producing Division I players so he will get to college prepared to make an impact right away and that is certainly something the Wildcats could use from Fisch's first full recruiting class at Arizona.
