Other notable offers: Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Arkansas, East Carolina, Southern Miss
Rundown: Hybrid players have been a theme for Arizona on the defensive side of the ball in the 2021 class up to this point. Defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads and his staff have been focused on offering players who can do more than one job and a couple of the prospects that have already committed to the Wildcats fit into that category.
Also in that category is junior college outside linebacker/safety KJ Cloyd who Arizona offered two months ago. The Jones County Junior College (Ellisville, Mississippi) standout linebacker has continued to see his stock rise late in the spring with three of his four Power Five offers coming within the last two weeks.
The Wildcats have continued to stay involved, but the coronavirus pandemic has essentially halted much of the progress he has been able to make with his recruitment up to this point.
"Really the coronavirus slowed everything down and didn't let me go take visits and really know the coaches," he told Red Raider Sports. "So right now, I'm open to all the schools recruiting me. For me, it's just a blessing to be able to continue playing football at Jones."
Like many of the other junior college players Arizona has recruited under head coach Kevin Sumlin, Cloyd is an expected December graduate who will arrive at his next school in January to participate in spring ball. He is actually a full qualifier meaning he could play at a four-year school this season but he has opted to remain at Jones County JC for the 2020 season leaving him with three years to play two at his next stop.
The 6-foot-2 linebacker certainly has some impressive film and he has a knack for getting in the backfield and making plays as a pass rusher. He plays well against the run and should be able to help his next team in a big way in those situations.
At this point he says the plan is to make a decision only after he has been able to take some in-person visits, which can't happen until the recruiting dead period comes to an end. Right now the dead period is set to end on July 31.
UA has recruited him longer than any other Power Five program, but he now has some options a bit closer to home so it will be interesting to see where his recruitment goes from here now.
