Top 7: Arizona, Cal, Colorado, Kansas, Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State
Rundown: Arizona is part of the top 7 for three-star defensive end/linebacker Kaleb Elarms-Orr as he released his updated list on Monday. The California-based prospect from Moreau Catholic in Hayward has long been considered a Cal lean since it is his hometown school and he has strong connections there. However he has been adamant that he is keeping his options open and not leaning in any one direction.
“A lot of people think I’m going to go to Cal just because my mom went there and I said I liked the visit but I could go to any school at this point,” Elarms-Orr recently told Rivals.com's Adam Gorney. “I don’t have a top school at this point. I’m just exploring my options.”
That Arizona made the cut is not a big shock as the Wildcats have remained involved in his process even since before offering him back in back in late March. The 6-foot-3 pass rusher fits into what the Wildcats are looking for right now on defense with his ability to play different spots including both defensive end and outside linebacker. Right now he probably projects best as an outside linebacker at the next level, but if a team wants to bulk him up he could easily be a defensive end in college because of his pass rushing ability.
For now he will move ahead and begin narrowing his options again as he works toward a decision. Like so many other prospects, Elarms-Orr is likely going to wait until he can take some physical visits before coming to a decision. As of now it is looking like he will not decide on a college until deep into his senior season leaving programs like Arizona with a chance to get him on campus before that time assuming the NCAA lifts its ban on in-person visits before the fall.
One thing that has kept Arizona in the running is the chance for Elarms-Orr to get on the field early with the Wildcats. Outside receivers coach and area recruiter Taylor Mazzone is leading the recruitment for the Wildcats.
Elarms-Orr had some eye-popping stats a season ago as he finished his junior year with 121 tackles, 35 tackles for loss and 14 sacks.
