Cats vs Lebanon National team

Cats handled the LN team fairly easily today 85-71. Cats had a double digit lead at half and was almost 20 by the end of the third.

Keshad Johnson once again looked like real deal and hit a dagger of a three with under two minutes to go to salt the win away

I thought Boswell moved the ball well and Bradley played disruptive defense. Pelle looked very good and overall the coaches have to be happy this early in the year

Derec English

Evidently this in state guy has been added to the roster. He is from Scottsdale Saguaro and was the #12 player in the state, one behind Genesis Smith. He is 6’4” and 210 pounds

He had offers from a bunch of schools, including ASU, Florida State, Louisville, Michigan State, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

This sounds an awful lot like Dorian Singers situation. Does Matt or Troy have anything on this?

Training camp: Day 13

Hey everyone, Arizona had its 13th day of fall camp practice on Thursday — it's last day practice open to the media before the season begins on Sept. 2 against NAU.
Here are some of takes from today's practice.

Quick takes:

Jayden de Laura- Looking mostly sharp and accurate most of camp, quarterback Jayden de Laura looked indecisive with his passing on Thursday and was unable to find his initial or second reads within enough time before the defenders broke through the offensive line for a pressure and/or a sack. He did throw a for a touchdown and run for one, but ultimately had a underwhelming day in terms of his accuracy and completion percentage.

Jacob Kongaika- Playing as mostly as a positional piece within the copious amount of depth on the defensive line, sophomore Jacob Kongaika stood out from the others on Thursday with his ability to shed blocks and make tackle after tackle with a couple coming from behind the line of scrimmage. Appearing in nine games last season, he looks to be someone who can be trusted as a constant rotational player that can be inserted should someone on the defensive line need a rest.

AJ Jones- Missing the last two practices, AJ Jones was back in pads on Thursday. However, the sophomore receiver was in a red jersey, indicating that he is still recovering. Jones should be healthy by week 1.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Training camp: Day 12 of camp

Hey guys, Arizona has wrapped up Day 12 of camp and I wanted to jump in here and share some of my quick takes of how things went for the Wildcats.

Quick takes:

Noah Fifita - Wednesday was the first true day of practice where I felt quarterback Noah Fifita struggled and let some passes get in his head. Fifita threw a pick to Dylan Wyatt early in practice and from that point he seemed hesitant with his decision making, which led to missing open receivers.

Now, this isn't cause for concern given that bad practices happen but we saw the hesitant last training camp when players started blocking his passes. SO, it is something to keep a small eye on.

Justin Flowe - It seems to me that linebacker Justin Flowe has done a better job of staying within the system and not leaving his zone while in coverage. Johnny Nansen talked about wanting to see him play more in control and I think Flowe has taken steps towards doing that.

AJ Jones - For the second-straight practice, receiver AJ Jones has been out working on the sideline and wasn't able to go on Wednesday. Jones has had a great training camp and seems to be dealing with some kind of leg/lower body issue. He has been working with staff on running drills.

We'll have more as usual but feel free to ask us any questions you may have in the mean time.

Training camp: Day 11 of camp

Hey guys, I just wanted to drop in a share my quick takes from practice as Arizona ends Day 11.

Quick takes:

Dylan Wyatt - Everytime Arizona holds an open practice, cornerback Dylan Wyatt keeps on moving up on the depth chart. On Tuesday, Wyatt was working with the first-team defense over Tacario Davis. With the way he is progressing, he could be a Game 1 starter for Johnny Nansen.

Joseph Borjon - Overall, I think it safe to say that tackle Joseph Borjon has shown improvements since last training camp and has become more mobile on the field. However, Borjon missed today's practice with an unknown injury but was on the sideline watching his team.

Gunner Maldonado - I think safety Gunner Maldonado has become the "talk shit guy because I can't cover," guy on the team. He has gotten into heated exchanges with Jacob Cowing, Jonah Coleman and Tetairoa McMillan. I don't know if it is because he can sense that his starting job is on the line, or if he is just trying to pick fights to fire people up.

We'll have more shortly from practice here in a little bit. Feel free to ask any questions you may have and I'll answer them as soon as possible.

Training camp: Day 9 of camp (scrimmage No. 1)

Hey guys, today has ended with the Wildcats finishing their first scrimmage of camp and I wanted to jump and and share some quick takes from the day.

Quick takes:

Rayshon Luke - One of the guys that have improved this training camp is Rayshon Luke. Luke hasn't gotten a lot of touches, but when he does he has made the most out of them. In the scrimmage today, he ripped off a 67-yard run from the one-yard line. Fisch talked about how he needs to improve ball security to see the field more.

Jackson Holman - I don't think receiver Jackson Holman will see the field this season. However, Holman has some of the best hands on the team and scored a touchdown at the scrimmage today. He has a bright future with the Wildcats.

Red zone - The Wildcats went 4-for-4 in the red zone today with the starting offense going 2-for-2. A lot of that was running the ball and the offensive line got great leverage up from allowing Coleman to power it in. Massive steps in the right direction.

We'll have more from camp here shortly.

Training camp takeaways: Day 8 of camp

Hey guys, training camp has ended for Arizona today and I wanted to jump in and share my quick takes from Day 8 of camp.

Quick takes:

Daniel Heimuli - Friday marks back-to-back practice that linebacker Daniel Heimuli has been working with the first-team defense along side Jacob Manu. Heimuli has been the Wildcats' best coverage linebacker in camp and he is starting to see the rewards.

That means, linebacker Justin Flowe has been moved to the second unit the last two practices.

Starting GUNNER - One of the key positions on special teams is the GUNNER position and right now DJ Warnell has been the starter at that position. Warnell has looked good and gets off the line fast making him hard for other players to block.

Brayden Dorman - In fairness quarterback Brayden Dorman hasn't seen a lot of reps at all this camp. However, when Dorman is in, it is clear that he needs time to adjust to the college game and the speed of it. The ball just doesn't come out fast enough right now and it is causing him to miss some open receivers, or misses seeing them at all.

We'll have more as usual. Feel free to ask any questions you may have and we'll answer them as soon as possible.

Training camp takeaways: Day 7 of camp

Hey guys, camp has ended for the day and I wanted to jump in here and give a few quick takes.

Quick takes:

Jacob Cowing vs. Gunner Maldonado - out of all the battle to watch this training, the battles between Jacob Cowing and Gunner Maldonado has been really entertaining to watch. Also, it has nothing to do with the match up that Cowing has absolutely dominated and everything to do with their interaction with each other.

Cowing has cooked Maldonado all camp long and it isn't even close. However, the two are always talking smack to each other after every play with Maldonado always starting it. I think it's clear that the two player do not like each other at all, for some reason.

Low energy - It always happens one of twice a training camp, the low energy practice. Thursday felt like that day for Arizona and it started really slow. However, things pick up near the end.

The shield - Arizona uses a "shield" to block for the punter on punts. This season, the starting shield looks to be Bill Norton, Jacob Kongaika and Tyler Manoa. A lot of size and power with that unit.

As always, we will have more from practice here shortly. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Training camp takeaways: Day 6 of camp

Hey guys, camp has ended for the day and I wanted to jump in and share some of my quick takeaways from the day.

Quick takes:

Emmanuel Karnley - A lot has been said about the top four cornerbacks on Arizona roster and how well they are doing. Those four guys are clearly ahead of the rest.

However, Emmanuel Karnley has had a good training camp. He has the size that the coaching staff wants. Right now Karnely is very raw with his talent but has been solid during 1-on-1 drills against the receiving corps.

Wendell Moe - Later during Monday's practice, guard Wendell Moe left with a lower leg injury. However, he was right back out at practice on Tuesday and didn't seem to be bothered by anything

Moe has looked really good at the left guard position and seems more mobile than he was last season.

Red zone offense - Right now, I would say the defense has won the battle in the red zone. However, there is a wrinkle in Arizona’s offense they just can't stop in the red zone and that is RPO's. I know, that's going back to the Rich Rodriguez days! But, it works and I can see the Wildcats running a ton of RPOs in the red zone this season.

As usual, we will have more throughout the day on training camp from Day 6.

Recruiting update: Koa Peat

Hey guys, one of the interviews I did during Section 7 with with the overall No. 3 recruit in the country for the 2025 class in Koa Peat.

I talked to him about Arizona and others that are recruiting Peat.

Here's my article:

If you have any questions, let me know.

Thoughts from practice

Hey guys, on Tuesday the media was allowed to watch 30 minutes practice before the team heads to Israel and Abu Dhabi. There were a few things that stood out during that time that I would like to share below.

Quick takes:

Conrad Martinez - I looked at the film of Conrad Martinez when he signed and didn't think much of him. The film wasn't very impressive. However, I've changed my mind after watching one practice.

Martinez is 100% a floor general and commands the floor when he is in. I saw this during free flowing offensive drills with no defense. He made sure everyone was in the right spot. Plus during 1-on-1 drills where the goal was to score the ball against heavy lock down defense, he was able to slash and get to his spot most of the time.

I'm highly impressed with Martinez and see a little TJ McConnell in him.

KJ Lewis - People are sleeping on guard KJ Lewis and we and coach Tommy Lloyd have said multiple times. Lewis was highly impressive during the 1-on-1 drills not only on offense but on defense as well. He might be one of the top 3 defensive players on the team. He is going to be very special and make a push for a starting spot.

Oumar Ballo - Oumar Ballo was moving well and getting to the bucket. The biggest difference with him is that his arms are noticeably larger and looks to have way more muscle.

A lot of great stuff and those are the things that stood out to me.

Training camp takeaways: Day 5 of camp

Hey guys, starting to put together stuff from training camp after a crazy day of three press conferences. So, we will have football stuff here shortly and i wanted to share my quick takes from Monday's practice.

Quick takes:

Bill Norton - Again, after watching Bill Norton play with the starting defense the last couple of practices my take remains the same. And my take is that he just isn't very good. I think Norton talent wise is behind the ball and behind Sio Nofoagatoto'a, Tyler Manoa, Ta'ita'i Uiagalelei and Jacob Kongaika. The fact of the matter is that he just isn't very good and is often dying on the sideline's in between plays and has a hard time keeping up.

I think Arizona might start him to open up the season, but I don't see Norton last long as a starter.

Dylan Wyatt - Again, the one cornerback that has been really impressing me this training camp is transfer Dylan Wyatt, who had a great practice on Sunday. Wyatt was able to back that up with another good practice on Monday and got his hands on several passes causing them to fall incomplete. I think we could see him move up as the No. 3 cornerback at some point this camp f he keeps progressing.

Isaiah Ward - One of the guys that has shown massive progression this training camp is KAT edge rusher Isaiah Ward, who saw some playing time at the end of the 2022 season. In camp he has been able to get to the quarterback and in the backfield a lot. Plus, Ward has gotten his hands on a few balls tipping them up into the air. There is a lot of camp left, but he could be a starting defensive lineman this season.

We'll have more from camp shortly. Feel free to ask any questions, and we will answer them.

Pac-12 TV deals

Was talking to someone inside the Pac-12 that has been in their meetings with George Kliavkoff regarding where the TV deals are going and how they feel. Right now, Kliavkoff is extremely confident in the direction of the conference and they are looking at teams to add. Plus, they feel that a TV deal is coming soon and may happen by the end of the athletic season (end of spring sports).

With everyone locked into contracts, the Pac-12 feels like it will get an interestingly unique contract that involves both TV and online services like Amazon Prime.

Training camp takeaways: Day 4 of camp

Hey guys, we have finished up camp and I wanted to jump in here and share my quick takes from the day as we work on articles from the day.

Quick takes:

Starting offensive line - The first practice that we were able to see the start line featured Joseph Borjon (Jordan Morgan will start) and Jonah Savaiinaea starting at tackle, Leif Magnuson and Wendell Moe playing guard with Josh Baker at center. However there was a "small" change on Sunday with big Raymond Pulido moving in at right guard replacing Magnuson on the line. Pulido looked great and moved like he has played guard his whole life even during 11-on-11 drills with the first-team offense.

Duane Akina - I know coach Duane Akina is supposed to only be on the field until Ricky Hunley is back with his injury. However, he has taken full control of the safeties group while Chuck Cecil watches him coach from the side. Akina is running the show and brings to question if there will be a permanent change there.

Zarius Wells - I know Zarius Wells is a walk-on and won't see the field this season. However, I think Arizona might've gotten a steal and a guy in Wells that might be starting on the line next season. He was really impressive today during position drills and moves very well for his 6-foot-6, 294-pound frame. He will be a guy to keep and eye on for the future and the rest of camp.

We will have more as always. But, if you have any questions, let us know.

COMMITMENT: Arizona lands Chance Harrison for 2024 class

Arizona has landed a commitment from 6-foot-2 athlete Chance Harrison for its 2024 recruiting class. Harrison was previously committed to BYU before flipping to Arizona after a visit to Tucson during the summer. He announced his choice on Instagram just a few minutes ago.

Another big athlete to play in the secondary, and the staff seems to really love his skill set.

Insight to Arizona's move to the Big 12

Yesterday was a historic day for Arizona with its move from the Pac-12 to the Big 12 creating a 16-team conference that is now rich with basketball history and tradition, However, I've gotten to speak to people around the conference (Pac-12) and Friday was even crazier than what people realize.

When we were all laying out head to our pillow Thursday night, Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavoff was under the impression that he had convinced the nine remaining school to sign an improved Grant of Rights deal in the morning. The deal was still with Appletv and was raised to around $25-million per school and would've been only a 4 to 5-year deal that would've set them up to add major networks down the road.

However, those meetings went horribly wrong and it is believe that one school was leaking the details of the meeting (Oregon) so that the Big Ten would catch wind and make one last push for the Ducks and Washington. UO had no intent of signing the new GOR and was simply using the Pac-12 for leverage to see if they could get more from the Big Ten.

It worked and Oregon and Washington saw its share raise to around $30-million with it increasing by one million dollars each year throughout the duration of the Big Ten's TV deal. Then, after that the Ducks and Huskies will receive full share like USC and UCLA on the next TV contract.

After the writing was on the wall both Arizona, ASU and Utah informed the Pac-12 of their decision to join the Big 12 given the fact that both Washington and Oregon were out.

The sad part is that San Diego State University was set to join the conference (Pac-12) following the announcement of the new TV deal and had filled out the paper work and had a press release ready to email out. Now, the Aztecs are looking for a new home still and the Big 12 is on their radar.

It will be getting ugly here in the days to come for the Pac-12 as the conference has started to file paperwork to prepare to sue ESPN and FOX for collusion they believe took place. The conference thinks the two major networks purposely refused to give them a deal and were in works with the Big Ten and Big 12 to start poaching the Pac-12 teams off one-by-one.

A lot more details to this and I can answer any questions you have.

Training camp takeaways: Day 3 of camp

Hey guys, I had to get out of the heat for a little. However, I wanted to jump in and give some updates on the things I saw during training camp here really quick. And as always, we will have more here shortly with videos, takeaways and my three-point stance from the practice.

quick takeaways:

- Jacob Reese is not practicing again, Jedd Fisch didn't disclose any details, but it isn't a good sign when you see a kid that has health issues in the past not taking part in practice.

- Tacario Davis started as the second starting cornerback along side Ephesians Prysock during the light 7-on-7 drills and red zone battles.

- Raymond Pulido is working as the second-unit right tackle and really looks the part of a future starting tackle with his size and quickness he displayed.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have about the notes above. We'll have more from practice being posted on the site and in this thread soon.
