All the talk during the season and in the early part of the offseason was about how Ma'Jon Wright could potentially be the best player on Arizona's team. He was productive in his year away from games as he sat out because of transfer rules since he was still able to practice. By all accounts he had been in line to be the top receiver on the team. When spring ball arrived it simply didn't play out that way with star freshman Tetairoa McMillan separating himself as a top player while Dorian Singer hit a new level in his development as the two outside receivers.

Jacob Cowing stepped in and fit right in with at the slot position leaving Wright as an odd-man out with the Wildcats expected to feature a tight end often throughout the season.

So, he has once again decided to enter the transfer portal. Wright has officially once again entered his name in the portal for a third time. He initially came to Arizona after a productive high school career. He played some as a freshman then opted to head to Middle Tennessee State where he started to work with the team in spring practice before ultimately deciding that he wanted to return to UA. However, because he had already transferred once and started taking classes at MTSU, Wright was deemed to be transferring a second time despite never playing in a game at his new school.

He returned to UA last summer and began working with the Wildcats while sitting out as a redshirt player. His decision to transfer now means he will have to sit out once again during the 2022 season unless he can get a waiver and supply a legitimate reason for making the move other than playing time.

Wright could come back to Arizona, but at this point I'm not sure the staff would go through this whole process all over again with him. As long as he doesn't end up enrolling at another school the opportunity for him to return to Arizona and play next season would technically still be there. He's one talented player, so someone should give him a shot, but now he's beginning to burn his eligibility.

A definite bizarre situation.
