Led by co-managers Casey Bowman and Austin Schnabel, Team Cats completed the three-game sweep of Team Wild in Arizona baseball's Wild vs. Cats World Series.
In traditional scoring, Team Cats won 11-4 Sunday behind three-hit performances from freshmen Cameron Cannon and Matt Fraizer. Fraizer, who went 6 for 14 for the weekend with seven RBI, went 3 for 4 Sunday with three runs scored and three RBI.
The freshman outfielder mainly patrolled right field for Team Cats. Cannon, the team's shortstop all three games, went 3 for 5 Sunday with three RBI and two runs scored. Jared Oliva also had a multiple-hit game, going 2 for 5 with a run scored.
Cesar Salazar, J.J. Matijevic and Kyle Lewis all had a hit in the win. Salazar scored three runs, Matijevic scored twice and Lewis plated two RBI. On the mound, J.C. Cloney started for Team Cats and allowed just one run over 2 1/3 innings, while striking out three. He didn't issue a walk. Cameron Ming also pitched for Team Cats, tossing three scoreless innings in relief. He walked one and struck out one.
For Team Wild, junior outfielder Cal Stevenson had his third straight two-hit game of the series. He went 2 for 4 with a triple and a run scored. Freshman third baseman Nick Quintana went 1 for 4 with a home run Sunday. He drove in three. His homer went to left-center, pegging the 1986 National Championship sign. Randy Labaut went 1 for 3 with a run scored for Team Wild.
