Arizona State evened up the series with Arizona on Friday night, topping the Wildcats 10-5 in front of a season-high 6,738 fans at Hi Corbett Field.

The Sun Devils avenged their 6-4 loss in the series opener, by breaking a tie game open in the sixth inning with a three-run frame and then adding two more in the ninth. Arizona State improved to 22-29 on the season and 12-14 in Pac-12 play. Arizona dropped to 31-21 overall and 11-15 in league play.

Arizona State got on the board first Friday when third-place hitter gage Canning hit a two-strike, two-out home run off Michael Flynn in the first inning to put the Sun Devils up 1-0. The Wildcats came right back in the bottom half of the inning. Alfonso Rivas doubled with one out and then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at one.

But in the second, the Sun Devils loaded the bases off Flynn with no outs without the benefit of a hit. Flynn walked a pair and hit one man to load them up for left fielder Hunter Bishop. Bishop roped a double to left-centerfield to clear the bases and make it 4-1. He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and then scored on a sacrifice fly from leadoff man Hunter Jump.

In the third, the Cats put together their big own inning to come back and tie the game. Rivas led off the inning with a double and Cameron Cannon walked to put two men on. After a fly out, Nick Quintana and Matt Fraizer put together back-to-back RBI singles to score Rivas and Cannon to make it 5-3. Following a strikeout and a walk, freshman shortstop blooped a two-run single to center to score Quintana and Fraizer and knot the game at five.

That remained the score until the Sun Devils scored three in the sixth. Carter Aldrete had an RBI single that scored Canning, who tripled to lead off the inning. Bishop then had a two-run single to make it 8-5.

Spencer Torkelson hit a three-run home run in the ninth off of Avery Weems to make it 10-5, which stood up to be the final. The win by ASU snapped a five-game losing streak against the Wildcats, going back to last year.

Rivas finished 2 for 5 with two runs scored in the loss. Quintana was 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored. Fraizer was 1 for 1 with three walks, reaching base in all four of his plate appearances.

The rubber match in the series is set for 4:30 p.m., on Pac-12 Network. Lefty Eli Lingos will start for the Sun Devils. Arizona has yet to announce a starter.
