The new director of strength and conditioning for football at Arizona has now been made official. Former Texas A&M assistant strength and conditioning coach Brian Johnson will now head things up for Kevin Sumlin at UA.

Johnson had been at Texas A&M since last February and before that he spent a year in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers as an assistant strength coach. He was at LSU for three seasons prior to that in an assistant strength coach role as well.

Johnson, an LSU alum, spent a few seasons in the NFL before transitioning over to the strength and conditioning side with his first job coming at Florida State for a little over two years as an assistant strength coach there. He has been a head strength and conditioning coach one time before when he held that position at Akron for a few months before ultimately leaving for his spot at LSU in the summer of 2012.

The former offensive lineman has this posted on a profile page of giving some insight into what he's about: "My goal is to develop football players that are both mechanically and functionally sound by implementing a comprehensive program that reduces injuries and increases maximum power, strength, agility and speed. Using performance data, I will be able to support and reinforce a sustainable platform of performance training and strength and conditioning that is based on playing experience and incorporates traditional strength and power programming, effective rehabilitative planning and integrate preventative movement practice and real-time functional movement screening protocols."

Another hire that checks off a lot of the boxes for Sumlin
