TRANSFER TRACKER: Arizona departures (2024 April window)

Hey guys, the transfer will be opening on Tuesday and the craziness will start again with Arizona losing around 5 to 6 players to the portal. And, it has already started with Joseph Borjon announcing today that he will be entering the portal. Borjon wasn't at practice on Thursday, so this comes at no surprise.

Arizona has added a commitment from former New Mexico offensive lineman Shancco (Ise) Matautia. The 6-foot-2, 346-pound redshirt junior from California made 11 starts at right guard for the Lobos last season and played in 12 games. He's made 21 starts throughout his career and had transferred to ASU in the winter. He is an alum of Anaheim-Servite so there is obviously a connection there with several current players.

He'll have two seasons of remaining eligibility with the Wildcats.

TRANSFER UPDATE: Arizona snags guard Anthony Dell'Orso

Arizona has added former Campbell guard Anthony Dell'Orso, who has been testing the NBA waters similarly to KJ Lewis and Caleb Love.

Dell'Orso averaged 20.2 points and shot 39% from deep while collecting 6.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists this past season.

He comes to Arizona as a 6-foot-6 guard that can handle to ball and get to the line knocking down 81% of his foul shots.

Arizona-UCLA series

Hey guys, as we all know, Arizona's move to the Big 12 and UCLA's move to the Big Ten has put the historic rivalry of Arizona-UCLA in basketball in danger of falling into pieces.

Well, there is an effort to save the rivalry as Arizona and UCLA will be playing games at a neutral site starting next season at the Footprint Center in Phoenix.

Games in the series:

2024: Phoenix
2025: Las Vegas
2026: Year off
2027: Los Angeles

I'll be writing something up and post it in here as well.

Another College of San Mateo player is headed to Arizona. 2024 receiver Jeremiah Patterson has announced his commitment to the Wildcats following a visit to Tucson. He had picked up some smaller offers previously and was gaining attention as a PWO by other programs including USC but it is sounding like he'll join UA as a scholarship player now giving the team another playmaker.

He led CSM with 55 catches for 790 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns. He had over 350 yards as a returner to go along with a touchdown on special teams as well.

He'll have two seasons of eligibility left.

NCAA settlement

This week a landmark settlement was agreed to that will change college athletics. Revenue sharing is coming to college athletics and most of what you know about the college game is going to change. Here are a few articles breaking down how it will all work after the House v. NCAA settlement agreement that was made Thursday.

Oregon State transfer running back and the second most-productive runner in the Pac-12 last season, Damien Martinez, is beginning a string of visits with a trip to Tucson. The rising junior will also make visits to Mississippi State, Kentucky and Miami in the next 10 days as he is looking like he will move quickly on a decision.

Walk-on addition

Hey guys, I wanted to update you on the commitment of wide receiver Jordan McCord, who announced his commitment to the Wildcats on Twitter today. McCord is part of the 2024 recruiting cycle and will be on the 2024 roster for Arizona. So, this means it is a preferred walk-on situation and not a scholarship situation. Right now, we don't have a profile for him, but he has had offered (not sure to the extent) from San Jose State and Eastern Washington.

Alonzo Carter was the one at San Jose State that started the recruiting process with McCord, so it makes sense that he would want to bring him in as a PWO at Arizona and give him a division one opportunity.

Arizona has added a transfer commitment from Stanford defensive end Lance Keneley today following his visit to Tucson. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive lineman from Mission Viejo, California is coming off his best season after having 35 tackles (16 solo) to go with 4 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks for the Cardinal in 2023. He made nine starts and played in all 12 games last season.

Keneley, who is another Arizona player that played at Mission Viejo HS, heads to UA with one season of remaining eligibility. He's played in 32 games throughout his four college seasons.

Official visit weekend No. 1 (May 3-5)

As teams transition out of spring ball and into the spring visit season, the Wildcats will host their first batch of official visitors. Many programs have opted to begin using May as a time for official visits, and Arizona is one of them. Even last year it was rare for programs to begin hosting official visitors in May, but that mindset has changed across the board. The "big" visits wills till be taking place in June but there are still going to be plenty of priority targets on campus in the coming weeks.

We'll continue adding to this list, but here are some of the early names expected in Tucson this week.
