So as I mentioned in another thread Arizona offered 6-foot-5 defensive tackle PJ Johnson from City College of San Francisco today. He's had some other offers but nothing that has appealed to him as much as the Arizona offer. I just got off the phone with him and he has to make a decision quick. He essentially has this week to take whatever visits he has planned and he's hoping to take two trips this week and then make a decision. Barring some other offers coming through he's going to decide on the Arizona visit this weekend and then take things from there. If he gets no other additional offers to consider between now and the weekend he will take the trip to Tucson and then decide by "Sunday or Monday" on his next stop.

It's clear the Arizona offer is a big one for him and he's very excited about the chance to play in the Pac-12. Oregon State is going to run his situation through compliance to make sure he would be cleared and the Beavers could offer tomorrow he said. If that happens then it could throw a wrench in things. He has a son and would prefer to stay as close to home as possible. Corvallis would still be a trek but not as far of a trek as Tucson so I could see that being an enticing offer for him.

He clicked with Vince Amey who he met with today and Amey wanted to make the offer to him even though the communication just started over the weekend. He said Amey, Marcel Yates and Rich Rodriguez all gave their sign off on the offer and have made him feel very wanted and that's big for him.

He's got an interesting story since he is a bounce back from Sacramento State. He redshirted his freshman season and then played as a redshirt freshman in 11 games. The spring after that doctors discovered he had a tumor in his leg and it forced him to miss time since it impacted his on-field performance. He then left Sac State and went to CCSF where he played this season. Right now he is a two-for-two guy and a midyear enrollee, but that second year is based on him getting a medical hardship waiver approved by the NCAA. He feels he has a good case, so that is how he's approaching the rest of his career with the feeling that he will have two years at his next school.

I'll have more but it is a fluid situation because of all the interest he's received the last couple days. I feel confident in saying that Arizona is right at the top of the list for him as of tonight, but the next week will be an interesting one for him. He said he will come to a decision by the end of this weekend or Monday at the latest and be a silent commit to whatever program he chooses and will then announce his decision Wednesday.

He was a great recruit to interview and has a heck of a story with a lot of things he's had to overcome. I have a feeling he'd be a Dereck Boles type in terms of passion. Right now he said he is at about 325 but his hope is by the start of the 2018 season he can be around 305 or even 300 pounds. Johnson said he wants to add some more speed to his skill set so he's going to get working on trimming down.
