Arizona has announced today that freshman point guard Kerr Kriisa will be returning to Europe to play for the Estonian senior national team in an event in Russia and this weekend and an event in Macedonia next Monday meaning he will not be available to play for the Wildcats. In addition to that, he has not yet been ruled eligible by the NCAA and it is something the program is continuing to work on for the time being. There is a possibility that he does not get cleared to play though there is confidence that the program and NCAA can make it happen. This is one of the risks in recruiting international players there are several issues to work through before a player can be cleared especially when they are part of professional organizations overseas.
“Given the situation, this is a great opportunity for Kerr,” Arizona head coach Sean Miller said in a statement. “We wish him the best of luck in the competition and look forward to his safe return to Arizona.”
This is obviously not what Arizona wants to have to open the season, but because he wouldn't be able to play for the Wildcats right now anyway it doesn't make any sense for Miller and the staff to keep him away from going home for the week.
