Arizona went full pads for the second time in camp and it brought Rich Rodriguez's first unpleasant day. The UA head coach didn't like the intensity at practice Wednesday night on a day when the team was calling it "Competition Day" and urging the young guys to take some of the older guys' jobs.

It still was mild compared to how the media has seen the UA head coach after a practice, but he certainly wasn't happy with how things went tonight.

* One reason for that is Arizona's defense was solid during the open portion of practice and was really taking it to the offense. Arizona had two separate hitting drills that it did and the defense was really doing a good job during those times and from the sounds of it that didn't stop once things continued after the media left.

* No new news on the center front as it appears things have settled in with that first group. Behind that things are still shifting as Levi Walton was working with the third group today and Gerhard de Beer was getting some work in with the second unit now that TD Gross is at guard with the first group.

* At the running back spot the battle remains between the third, fourth and fifth options. Tonight Rodriguez said he wants to have four ready to go for the season and at this stage Orlando Bradford is the fourth. Jonathan Haden has run into some injury issues again and Bradford has continued to make strides. Zach Green is still leading to be the third option.

* Sammy Morrison's name continues to come up and Rodriguez acknowledged the freshman cornerback is one who has caught his attention already. The UA head coach said he expects Morrison will see the field this year.

* Haden Gregory is dealing with some injury issues and Arizona went with redshirt freshman Tre Tyler at middle backer in place of him with the second unit today during the open portion of practice.

Arizona is back at it tomorrow morning, and I will have a full write up on both tonight's and tomorrow's practice on Thursday.
