So, RR was visibly angry at his press conference. I was too which is why I rarely if ever post during the game. How dare someone question him as the coach. “You guys can do whatever you want with that”. “You can second guess that if you want”. I really want to like RR then he has a press conference like this. Take some freaking responsibility!! He said of the 1st half clock management we were trying to score? Really? You then said you did not want to punt so which is it? Running out the clock or trying to score? He got mad because someone ask about Tate? Seemed like a fair question to me. RR seems like a nice guy and this is not a personal attack on him, just my observations concerning coaching this team.
I get angry, so I let my emotions calm down before I say something I might regret. He does not have that luxury of course, but come on. He is as stubborn as he is smart. That is a problem because if he were just a little less stubborn he could be a lot smarter. He is too slow to make changes. See the punting situation. He knows he has a problem, yet he kept on going during the season. We don’t work toward changing it. Someone on this team surely can punt besides Wood. Oh yea, Da Beer but we are scared. Scared of what? It could not be any worse!! Someone on another post said we would still be using Dawkins if he does not get banged up in the Colorado game. There is a part of me that believes it! Dawkins is a good athlete, he is just not a passer.
I think he is a good coach, but not great. He has not shown the ability to have the team ready for big games most of the time and we are not good on the road. We also lose home games we should not. We have a top offense, but have not played very many if any top defenses. We have never had a good defense under RR. Our problems all lead back to coaching period. If we have the right guys, then prepare them properly. If we do not who’s responsible for getting them? He had them ready yesterday for 29 minutes then he let up, so they let up... He should know better!! Never take your foot of the gas against your rival! NEVER! He got cautious at the end of the half and it was compounded when Tate took the hit to finish off his day. If you need to ease up in any game, you better be damn sure you are correct.
I ask earlier in the year about PAC 12 refs… Well they strike again! We should not have been in that position, but that does not take away the fact it was a terrible call on the punt return! RR says what are you going to do? How about using some of that anger on them! Let them know how much of a BS call that was! I hope they send that to the league office, not that it will do any good…
Bottom line at this point is he is our guy for now. Matt said we are rebuilding and he is correct, just remember RR is rebuilding his own mess! Matt also said 2019 is the year. I do not like that idea. It does not work that way. When you have a chance to make some noise you need to do so! We lost 3 out of our last four and OSU was not a quality win. Can we improve? You bet! Do we have some pieces? Yes! Do we have the right guys teaching, coaching and preparing them? I am not sure. Time will tell, but my patience is short with RR and his wizardry. You guys can decide for yourselves…
