Well Done Heeke! Congratulations! We are now the worst football program in the Pac 12 and probably close to it in the FBS! This problem is way deeper than Sumlin and Co. Matt mentioned it being a talent issue. Not sure I disagree. Question is now what? RR decimated the recruiting in my opinion! We had a golden opportunity after our 10-4 season and the Fiesta Bowl to build something and we just could not do it! Agree or not, it does not matter. What do we do now? Can Sumlin actually fix this? I really am not sure… It will take some time and more pain, I fear. Sumlin said the team needs to stick together. It doesn’t feel or look like a team that wants to do that.
The guy who should be fired in my opinion is Heeke! At the very least needs to be accountable. I want him to say the same thing I want Sumlin to say. “We will fix this”! I want to know they are committed to fix this. If money is the issue and the number one concern it won’t happen. Money has to be in the conversation obviously but needs to be looked at differently. Get this moving in the right direction and the money will follow. If you want change then you have to stop doing the same things over and over again. We need a coaching staff that can recruit, coach and teach. We need players willing to work hard and do what it takes to get the job done. No job is safe at this point both in coaching and playing. I think there are issues with certain players but naming them by name here is not useful. Suffice it to say I would not play anyone who was not giving effort and wanted to be an Arizona Wildcat! Sumlin said he needed to look at the tape to know if effort was an issue. Was he watching the same game?
The ultimate fate of this program has to start at the top! We need commitment from Robbins and Heeke or they need to go! No coach can fix this with their hands tied. I don’t care who it is! As I said I really do not know if Sumlin can fix this. What I do know is no matter who it is they need some resources and support. Something in my opinion that is lacking for the Football program.
