Arizona has lost defensive backs coach Duane Akina to Texas. Akina will be going back to Austin to be the Longhorns' new DB coach.
The past season, Akina spent time as the DC and saw the defense get riddle with injuries. During the offseason, he was demoted to DB coach and saw LB coach Danny Gonzales get promoted to the programs new DC.
I do not believe there was any hard feelings towards Brent Brennan. However, Gonzales will be running a 3-3-5 set which Akina was more of a 3-4 and 4-2-5 base defensive coach over the last several seasons.
This is a massive on field coaching blow to Arizona. Akina is probably the best DB coach in the country and is now heading to Texas.
