Arizona is set to put the finishing touches on its defensive staff by the end of the day Friday when it officially announces the addition of former Rutgers defensive coordinator Andy Buh. The 22-year assistant coach has spent nine of those years as a defensive coordinator or co-defensive coordinator at several different schools including Stanford, Cal, Nevada, Maryland and Rutgers.
He has also coached at Kentucky, Wisconsin, Fresno State and San Diego State throughout his career. Buh is a California native from Escondido, so there are some natural ties back to the West. He is a former junior college player who eventually ended playing at Nevada by the end of his career.
Because he is set to coach the outside linebackers at UA, that is the clearest signal that UA will be moving over to a 3-4 base defense under Paul Rhoads. With that, Demetrice Martin is set to take over the entire secondary unit in the 2020 season.
Like Stan Eggen, Buh has had a hand in getting several players to the NFL over the course of his career with the most notable member of that group being former Stanford defensive back and NFL All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman.
At this point there are no more moves expected to be made on the defensive side of the ball with Martin expected to remain on board as mentioned above.
