Notable offers: North Texas (committed), Colorado, Washington State, Kansas, Illinois, UTSA, Colorado State, UNLV, Tulane
Rundown: The 6-foot-4 prospect from Arlington, Texas committed to North Texas back in April, but his recruitment has continued to forge ahead with more schools becoming involved in recent weeks including Colorado and Kansas. Arizona decided to jump in with an offer to the hybrid defensive end/linebacker today as defensive line coach Stan Eggen made the call. Washington State and Illinois are the other Power Five schools that have offered Jones, who is set to play at Dallas Parish Episcopal after previously being at Pantego Christian Academy earlier in his career.
Arizona has been focused on finding versatile defensive players and has put some pressure on its targets to commit leading to a run of those recruits this month including Kevon Garcia and Cole Batson. While Jones could play linebacker at the next level, right now he is more of a defensive end and that is likely where the Wildcats will look to put him should he eventually flip to the Pac-12 school.
There is some flexibility in there, however, with Jones typically playing the role of a stand-up edge rusher during his high school career. If he can show coaches he has the ability to play in coverage, though, his move to being a full-time linebacker could be more permanent.
One thing the coaching staff has zeroed in on as of late is players who have produced at the high school level since that is one thing that tends to transition well to the college game. Jones was an all-state player last season in Texas and his stats show the reason why. He had 82 tackles, including 21 tackles for loss, plus 15 sacks and a pair of fumble recoveries.
He is another solid underrated find for the Wildcats and someone to keep an eye on as the process moves ahead considering he is staying open to new schools entering the mix despite being committed to UNT at this point. Right now it feels like it is going to be difficult for his commitment to stick especially with more Power Five programs getting involved.
